Don’t be afraid of the GDPR wolf!

How can your business easily comply with the new data protection and privacy laws and avoid fines of up to $27M? GDPR For Dummies sets out in simple steps how small business owners can comply with the complex General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). These regulations apply to all businesses established in the EU and to businesses established outside of the EU insofar as they process personal data about people within the EU.

Inside, you’ll discover how GDPR applies to your business in the context of marketing, employment, providing your services, and using service providers. Learn how to avoid fines, regulatory investigations, customer complaints, and brand damage, while gaining a competitive advantage and increasing customer loyalty by putting privacy at the heart of your business.

  • Find out what constitutes personal data and special category data
  • Gain consent for online and offline marketing
  • Put your Privacy Policy in place
  • Report a data breach before being fined

79% of U.S. businesses haven’t figured out how they’ll report breaches in a timely fashion, provide customers the right to be forgotten, conduct privacy impact assessments, and more. If you are one of those businesses that hasn’t put a plan in place, then GDPR For Dummies is for you.

Had a quick flick through. Appears to be extremely comprehensive. Pity it doesnt include a section on the Law Enforcement Directive which goes hand in hand with GDPR

    Excellent, well written engaging book.
Who’d have thought that GDPR would be engaging!
It is so well written, has certain sections & very easy on the eye.
I’d highly recommend it to gain & further enhance your understanding of GDPR.

The book covers a lot of detail, not really for beginners. Otherwise a good read

I thought the content was good but the way the book was ordered didn’t make much sense. I found myself having to make notes to cross reference back to something I had read earlier in the book on the same topic

So, I’ve worked in Data Protection for not as long as the author, specifically 4 years – which for some is no time at all. I’m very much self taught, at least initially. Why wasn’t this book around in 2016! In 2016, I really had to dig hard for resources to help me in my new career path and whilst all the research I did has helped me get to my current DPO position, I really could have done with a resource as expansive as this.

The reason I like this book so much.

    1) If you search for GDPR on Amazon, you’ll find a motley crew of outdated books that haven’t really dealt with developments in the past couple of years.
    2) You’ll find a mixture of bad and good reviews, and I am not sure how much I trust the reliability of them.
    3) When you do find an “okay” book, often the language is so far out of a laymans reach it’s practically intelligible.

I have a lot of resources at my disposal now I am in my current position – but this book is currently sat on my desk, and is already looking worse for wear. I’m revitalising our data protection practices (I work for a large national company, can’t say much more than that) and this book is guiding me. I’m using the helpful tips, the clear explanations to restructure our DPIA process and this afternoon I’m going through the lawful bases section to check whether we could be doing things a bit differently.

My Head of Compliance has been eyeing this up for days, he can get his own I am not sharing!

A great book for those who know nothing and seasoned data privacy professionals alike. Straight-forward easy to understand advice on the whys and wherefores of staying on the right side of data privacy laws of the UK and the EU. It is Invaluable for the novice, but also great as a reference manual for all. It also serves as an accessible text version of the regulations so non-specialists will find it easier to relate the ‘real world’ to what needs to be done.

Written in a way where you can read the book through from cover to cover or dip in and out when required, makes this a great purchase for anyone no matter whether you are a newbie to data protection and the world of GDPR or not. It covers everything you need to know along with proactive actions to ensure you understand the legalitities the act covers and also your responsibilities. As someone who has been keeping up with GDPR since before the legislation was put in place, this is by far the best book I have read. It contains all the relevant information and detail required laid out in a concise and easy to navigate manner. This is a must read for all small business owners and anyone with responsibility for data.
