Hoyoverse has actually blessed us with some high quality, mass market Genshin Impact merch in English? Am I hearing you right??
On to the review.
This artbook contains character promo art (the ones you’re familiar with from the Twitter drip marketing) and many illustrations up until the final version 1 release, plus a big three-page fold out of the twins, Paimon and the Archons from version 2.1 (with the Midsummer Island Adventure key art on the reverse). Other than that, the book is extremely text sparse, containing only a few descriptions of characters and the source of each artwork. No concept sketches, design team or artist interviews in this book, it really is just art and more art.
Technically speaking, this book is formatted, printed and binded exceptionally well. Little if no artwork is cut off in the margins between pages (which unfortunately requires mentioning, as this is a problem too common to artbooks), so you can enjoy the art in its full glory without losing bits of it. The book itself has a flexible hard cover with a dust protector, but comes packaged in a high quality (and very tight) hard folder. Once you’ve finished flipping through, be sure to put the book back inside – it’s little things like this that should increase the long-term storage of the book.
Besides that, the English release does not contain the bonuses that were included in the original Chinese release – specifically the cards of Childe and the art from version 2.1, although you still get the latter as the big fold-out page.
Now, the problems: the item I received had manufacturing defects. Several pages had big dents and bends, and others had black line smudges. Flipping pages and suddenly seeing Klee’s face with a big bar of dark ink smudged all across it kinda ruins the experience. Since the book itself comes packaged in a hard folder, there is no chance this is a shipping fault. About 5% of the pages were affected in total, which to me is enough to ask for a replacement, which I have done. If the issue repeats, I’ll unfortunately have to chalk it up to a quality control issue and might have to skip on this book until a potential reprint. Either that or I’ll look into getting the Asian-language version instead – there’s honestly not enough text in this book for the language barrier to be a real issue to an English viewer.
Otherwise, this is a really nice book that has been thought through well and definitely a must-buy for any Genshin Impact fan… well, so as long as you have enough money left to spend on it after playing the game.
Looking forward to vol. 2!

This is more a character picture book than an art book. The whole book comprises of final character images I’d seen before in game and absolutely no concept art or environment stuff. There was no peek behind the scenes showing rough sketches or the design journeys of places or characters like you would get in other art books. The book itself was well presented and images included are nice.. just nothing new. Pretty disappointing as being a fan of the art in the game I was looking forward to seeing sketches of all the different places..

The book came presented really well the artwork looks really beautiful. Its a brilliant present for any genshin impact enthusiast out there.
But.. if your buying this curious as to how the concept and workings out of these designs were done dont bother. There is no workings out and very little text (the text in the book is characters birthdays and quotes etc).
Its also ashame that this book is solely based on characters. Genshin has many beautiful weapon designs and props which would have added variety into this artbook.
