George Orwell’s 1984: The Graphic Novel
£13.20£16.10 (-18%)
The graphic novel edition of George Orwell’s bestselling dystopian classic. Illustrated by award-winning artist Matyáš Namai.
Winston Smith is a low-ranking member of the ruling Party in the nation of Oceania. Everywhere Winston goes, even his own home, the Party watches him through telescreens; everywhere he looks he sees the face of the Party’s seemingly omniscient leader, Big Brother. The Party controls everything in Oceania, even the people’s history and language. Now, the Party is forcing the use of an invented language called Newspeak which will prevent political insurgency by eliminating all words related to it. Even thinking rebellious thoughts is illegal. Such thoughtcrime is, in fact, the worst of all crimes.
But a seed of dissent grows in Winston – one that will bring him into direct conflict with the Party, and with devastating consequences.
Rarely has one book ever been so rich in political and social criticism as 1984. Originally published in 1949, this new graphic novel edition of the dystopian classic, powerfully illustrated by Matyáš Namai, reveals Winston’s fight against the Party in all its horror and futility.
“Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.”

Teen son, 16, needed to read 1984 for school but he’s not a fan of any books, let alone a heavy text like 1984 (classic though it is).
He spotted this on amazon and asked if he could get it. He never asks for books so naturally I snapped his hand off and ordered straight away.
He said he really enjoyed it so hopefully it has helped with his understanding of the characters and themes. I’d recommend it thoroughly on that basis. It has helped him and maybe could open up a new way to get him reading more.

Great book

Orwell knew (or guessed) quite accurately how our civilisation would devolve into such an authoritarian dystopia. The novel was chilling enough and now we have this superlative graphic novel to freeze the blood. I’ll admit, it didn’t quite match the graphic I have in my head that the novel gives me but it is incredible nonetheless. Matyáš Namai has done an amazing job adapting and illustrating the novel; bringing it to life in his own style yet remaining faithful to the original.
A well deserved 5*

“1984” by George Orwell is a classic. The original book was amazing and it made me think afterwards. This graphic novel version of the classic book just don’t do it justice. The art work is amazing and when I read the book I couldn’t imagine anything as good as this graphic novel. It’s one of the best graphic novels I’ve read in ages.
Fantastic seller and service and a very good price
Very happy with it 5 out of 5
If you’ve read the book you’ll want to check this out

It looks like a well done book but i was buying it for a 14 year old niece – then when it arrived i flicked through and it was a bit more of a “graphic” novel than i had anticipated. What the novel hinted at, it fully depicts.
