Going Rogue: Rise and Shine Twenty-Nine: 29 (Stephanie Plum)

£7.90

Stephanie Plum breaks the rules, flirts with disaster, and shows who’s boss in this whip-smart and fast-paced thriller from #1 New York Times bestselling “crown princess of detective fiction” (BookPage) Janet Evanovich.

Monday mornings aren’t supposed to be fun, but they should be predictable. However, on this particular Monday, Stephanie Plum knows that something is amiss when she turns up for work at Vinnie’s Bail Bonds to find that longtime office manager Connie Rosolli, who is as reliable as the tides in Atlantic City, hasn’t shown up.

Stephanie’s worst fears are confirmed when she gets a call from Connie’s abductor. He says he will only release her in exchange for a mysterious coin that a recently murdered man left as collateral for his bail. Unfortunately, this coin, which should be in the office–just like Connie–is nowhere to be found.

The quest to discover the coin, learn its value, and save Connie will require the help of Stephanie’s Grandma Mazur, her best pal Lula, her boyfriend Morelli, and hunky security expert Ranger. As they get closer to unraveling the reasons behind Connie’s kidnapping, Connie’s captor grows more threatening and soon Stephanie has no choice but to throw caution to the wind, follow her instincts, and go rogue.

Full of surprises, thrills, and humor, Going Rogue reveals a new side of Stephanie Plum, and shows Janet Evanovich at her scorching, riotous best.

Best JE book in a long while. Still the same old annoying love triangle but apart from that, it had the gritty feel of the earlier books and less of the stupid zaniness of kevin the missing giraffe and Lula wasn’t a total liability. Fun entertainment with a bit more substance than the last dozen books or so.

I’m a diehard Babe but I fear the love triangle will never end. Instead JE should roll out some polyamory with Steph, Ranger and Morelli. At this point any resolution is better than the tired triangle. That aside, I really enjoyed this book.

I’m not really sure where to start with this. I have read all the Stephanie Plum stories and at the beginning really enjoyed them, I am however, growing more and more frustrated with each book. At times the book was funny and reminded me of the first stories in this series. I do feel that Evanovich has missed a trick as many of the main cast lack depth of character, Lulu, Connie, Vinnie, Tank etc. This series would be so much better if these characters were explored and developed as the series progresses. I am so fed up with the Ranger/Morelli dilemma and I spend the book willing her to get with Ranger! It would be good to see her get with Ranger during the next book and see how their relationship develops as Morelli is frankly boring. I will continue to read the series as I do enjoy/feel frustrated in equal measure.

I’ve read all the Plum books. I enjoyed this one better than the last few – less ridiculous and two dimensional
