A rugby-mad boy. A huge game. And a chance for an epic win . . . or an epic fail!

Gordon D’Arcy is an ordinary boy, but he’s not so ordinary once he gets a rugby ball in his hands. He’s the star player for Wexford Wanderers and dreams of one day wearing the Ireland jersey. A dream like that means hard work, raw talent and never losing sight of your goals.

But Gordon has a wild streak that often lands him in trouble. Mum and Dad think that if he can just channel his energy, all will be well. Then something utterly mad happens and he gets a chance to live his biggest dream.

Can he stay on his game and do everyone proud? Or will trouble follow him . . . like it usually does?

Gordon’s Game is a funny and inspiring adventure for rugby lovers of all ages!

My 8 year old rugby crazy grandson loves the Gordon D’Arcy adventures. The stories have an admirable lessons to be learnt in life theme running through them that mirrors the rough and tumble of rugby.
Hope that there will be many more adventures to follow.

Gordon D’Arcy is a young boy when he discovers rugby and it immediately becomes clear that he has a special talent for the game. When he goes to a boarding school based around rugby something amazing happens. His talent is noticed by the Ireland rugby coach and he is selected for the team. Gordon does well and claims man of the match. However, all the glory goes to his head. He makes some very selfish and obnoxious decisions and loses the things that matter most, like his friends. Gordon messes up a match and is shamed by everyone. Gordon learns that you have to work hard for good things to happen. He is presented with another chance.
Gordon D’Arcy is an energetic young boy who always wants to please others. He has ginger hair and a bright smile. Gordon is quite stubborn and determined to become a good rugby player. He never gives up even when no one has faith in him.
Gordon makes some bad decisions and is so focused on his fame and popularity that he loses his two best friends, only facing the consequences when his career begins to go downhill.
I like this book because it shows that even if you make some mistakes, you will always be forgiven and welcomed back by those who matter most to you and they will help you get back on your feet so you can try again. Also, because it shows how if you work hard enough you will achieve your dreams, with a few bumps along the way, of course.
I would recommend this book to young rugby lovers or children looking for a fun and witty book with a good morale. It represents the hard work put in by professional athletes and is altogether a great book.

Bought this for a young Rugby player. My immediate problem with it is that is written from an Irish perspective which doesn’t sit well with an English youngster who probably won’t understand the Irish references. Otherwise an entertaining book.

My son, who loves rugby but isn’t normally a reader, has never enjoyed a book so much and wants you to make it into a film! Just pre-ordered your next book! Thank you!
