An easy to use, inspiring and invaluable guide with really helpful information on growing and varieties, all written in a very accessible style. I love this book and refer to it all the time.

This book is infinitely useful – I refer to it constantly when planning and planting up my garden. It has introduced me to a range of vegetables I’d never tried as well as those more familiar to me. I recommend it to anyone looking for a guide to edible gardening.

As a total veg novice this book gives the essential information needed, and has been an invaluable resource making for much more success in the garden this year. Plus I love reading all about things I never knew I could grow here like okra! Great addition to my shelf!

This is a very good and handy reference book for the usual and the unusual things you can grow and cook. The authors’ company ‘Otter Farm’ is also a fabulous online supply shop for lots of hard to find items. In response to cover, they put together a bundle of ‘essential’ seeds and herbs (and this book!) at virtually cost price – which was a terrific and selfless act.

Was lent a copy of this book which is essentially a brief rundown of mostly commonly grown vegetables with the most basic of information attached that can be found online or in any basic veg book. How the author thought this was filling a gap in the market is beyond me, although the sort of people that buy books by Mark Diacono are gullible middle class types who pretend to their friends that medlars and artichokes are great and brag about needing tarragon and olive oil ice cream in their lives.

    Brilliant little contemporary reference book.

Fantastic book. Clearly written and full of so much useful information on the standard and also more exciting adventurous crops you may like to grow. I’ve had my copy for several months and it’s already getting a bit battered as permanently in my allotment bag. Highly recommend.

From the conversational style of writing, to the huge depth of knowledge, this is the bees knees and my go to book for growing my own food. It’s like having a smart big brother on your side, giving you advice but also encouraging you to plant what you love to eat and to do it your own way.
