Bought this for my mum as she has been loving gardening more in lockdown. Would have been nice if it had colour pictures in it.

This book is excellent for the beginner. Helpful detail and information in layman’s language.

I recently moved house, and have inherited a large area that the last owners used to grow their own fruits and veggies. I’ve had experience growing flowers in the past, but had no idea about growing vegetables or fruits (apart from blackberries on a rather unruly bush at my old home!). Anyway, this book has been a God send. It explains EVERYTHING you need to know (and quite a bit I don’t need to know just yet, such as poly tunnel growing). It’s set out in a very simple to understand format, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who wants to grow their own food.

Have not used this extensively as yet, but the first impressions is that it looks very good, easy to follow and helpful. The only reason it has not got 5 stars is that we have not seen it assist in growing anything as yet…will have to update in the future as and when we see results…

If any book can ensure successful vegetable growing this is it. It is the most comprehensive and well written book on growing fruit and vegetables I have found. It is well laid out and easy to read but at the same time gives authoritative advice based on the authors great experience and knowledge. It is great relief to have a reliable guide instead of having to rely on trial and error .

The usual “dummies” format with markers for important points make it easy to use for reference. Explanation of different soil types, the use of containers, seasonal factors and producing organic food are part of the comprehensive subject matter.

Really hard to give this a full in-depth review as I have not read it from cover to cover, its one of many books I have invested in for the big transition of growing my own food. At a carful glance it seems to be well structured and fairly easy to follow, its certainly full of the fundamentals that a beginner would need and much more.

Also reading other peoples reviews did help me make the choice
