Lets be honest and say that this is about as close to the original 1st edition in hardback format that the majority of the UK public today could either afford, or have a chance at owning. The original 500 copies in hardback format are crazy expensive, and highly collectable. Its easy to see, then, why the market for this book would be high; but how good really Is it? The answer: bland.
There’s a few drawing at the front of the book, and a few odd pages at the back but other than that the story text is the same design, typeset (roughly) and format as the widely popular paperback versions found in supermarkets today sold for £4 or so.
I’m glad the sale price went down from £16.99 (as printed in the dust jacket of the book) to what it is currently because asking £16.99 for a book that’s been re-printed that many times would be insulting, and honestly this isn’t worth anything more than a tenner.
I think its time to stop reprinting this series, honestly. At this point its just a long drawn out cash cow and devalues any value these books have. Lord only knows how many versions, editions, illustrated editions etc have been made out of these stories. There’s literally zero value to any of them.
I wouldn’t expect these to be valuable in the future, there’s simply too many printed (the volume in supermarkets etc) show you this.
Personally I would have gone for a low print run at a high cost, but the (the publishers) have gone for a high volume print run at low cost meaning its just another book on the shelf.
its nice to own, but nothing special.
