Fascinating; now on my third reading. Good maps, profound photography. The terminology used is that of an archaeologist and a bit of external research is sometimes needed to get the best out of the text. The story revealed (of what to many Europeans is an unconsidered age) is utterly gripping.

The most complete and cultural attractive history of proto indoeuropeans.Baumer doesn’t forget to penetrate religion and values. His quotations are especially wide and clear.
It’s almost pitty it is a hardcover book, because the text is so fascinating. But the images are wonderful.

One of the very best books ever written about Central Asia. Christoph Baumer has an extraordinary ability to bring the history of this part of the world alive in a fascinating and original way. I highly recommend it to anyone students and general readers interested in the history of Central Asia. And the photographs are beautiful, absolutely stunning.

be not too sceptical of a single author’s ability to encompass a huge subject in a captivating and well informed manner that holds together despite the chronological ,and land mass immensity. It should work. for all ages!
