More geared to allotment sized beds and mine are much smaller. Just needed to know what to plant when. Not crop rotation and such like. I’m very much the amateur gardener not a market gardener.

[ Update: Having read some less informative books on the subject and having warmed to this book, I have upped my star rating to 4.5 rounded-up because:

Information is concisely presented. Images are relevant.
Physical presentation of text and images is very clear.
Pests and diseases are comprehensively covered.
A good variety of crops are covered.
Charts of sowing/growing seasons are very clear. ]

    Original review:
This is a fairly basic book and is only 80 pages long; it’s no bible.
And over half the book is dedicated to crop varieties and their sowing/harvesting windows.

It isn’t immediately obvs from the title that it only concerns PRODUCE.
I grow all sorts of nefarious verdage in my beds but I guess it’s a similar principle.

There does seem to be an assumption that we either have a massive plot or want to dedicate our whole garden to edibles.
For example, massive 3-bay compost heaps are depicted but no mention of wormery compost which demands much less space.
Even in the small garden section, the compost heap looks the size of my shed. (OK, so It’s a very small shed.)

Still, it’s a pleasing read with lots of illustrations and photo’s.
    Thus good coffee-table fodder.

Love this book, it’s one of my must reads, as a new allotment plot holder.

Great photos, simple to read, well laid out so it’s easy to follow.
Simple and useful diagrams as well as the text is readable and gives you what you need to know to start off.

Book is not too thick or heavy, so it’s easy to carry in my tool bag when I visit the allotment

    Highly recommended

I purchased as a present for a relative who is new to food growing.

The book is very well illustrated and informative.

Quite a good guide to raised bed veg growing, but the file is huge. Only 80 pages, but 43819Kb ! Lots of high resolution images, – even the text ? It loads onto my keyboard kindle ok, but only partly loads onto my Android lap top. Hence it loses a star from my rating. Better to buy the paperback edition, – only a few pence more.

This book supplied sound, reliable information in a format that is easy to follow for any stage of gardening experience. The benefits of ‘no-dig’ starts the book so that the principles are clear from the beginning. The year- round calendar, sowing table and crop rotation are just what’s needed, once you have chosen your plan for your raised beds. An excellent guide for vegetable growing.
