I pre-ordered this back in December and was so excited when it dropped through my letterbox.
Having worked in education for 20+ years it was the first book I’ve read that reflects todays classroom and education for our children. I have taken away so many key points and reflections from the book. Not only will this help to improve practice within the classroom it also translates to being a foster parent.
Orlene’s experience, knowledge and passion shines through every page!
This is honestly a must read for anyone working with children.

Wow! Wow! Woooow! This has to be the best book I have ever read AS A PARENT about racism and education in the UK. It is real, authentic and relatable. It simplifies what is the driving force (as well as what is wrong) in school structures, systems, policies of today and offers common sense and practical solutions for change and improvement. It is a useful tool on helping schools (youth clubs and nurseries) to realise that their main stakeholders are the children (parents included) and not to shy away from uneasy conversations such as, but not limited to, about race and lived experiences which impacts the child’s outcome in LIFE based on decisions made in school! In the chapter on Parents As Partners she states – I have NEVER met a parent who did not ultimately want what is best for their child. That sentence alone was one of the loudest in the book, for me and should be displayed at the entrance of every school as a reminder for all. She throws so many gems for Headteachers, Board of Trustees, SLT, middle leaders, support staff and parents, etc. You can only catch these gems by reading this book and taking action. She not only tackles the issue of racism in education full on but offers solutions to combat it and change the status quo. Highly recommend this book.

Just wow! A book that’ll better equip and prepare us for challenging moments at school that our children can face when we are not there. Not your average non-fiction – this book engages you in a way that you would least expect and takes you through the most crucial steps to supporting your childrens schools to be proactively non racist. 10/10 would recommend for parents, teachers, head of years, head of a Schools… Request to the author – can we have one for socitey in general please ????????????????????????
