Sadly, i had a horrid time of Math at high school for many reasons and though my academic work is fine, i struggle with the math and working from chapter one through to the end you will have a firm grasp on all the relevant numeracy you will need to work in your nursing career. I’m currently at chapter 4, the tests and quizzes are excellent to demonstrate your understanding of the content.

This is a great tool to help student nurses and helping RN’s revise and master nursing calculations and drug calculation exams. It breaks down basic maths to help you structure your approach to calculations. It’s great for someone who struggles with drug calculations or even people who just need a small amount of guidance. It also talks about different medicines and their various brand names to help recognising drugs. As a 2nd year student nurse with pharmacology and calculation exams this year, I found this very useful, especially in combination with a good Pharmacology textbook.

Personally, I regret buying this book.

I only use this book for the tests and mock test, not for explanations of methods as it isn’t always clear to me.

Since there are a many errors within this book, I sometimes get confused due to these.

Also, considering that I purchased this book to improve my maths, it has not helped me that much.

For me, it’s not the best book. I would definitely recommend “Numeracy and Clinical Calculations for Nurses, second edition”

The Kindle edition is clear and easy to use / read on both my Kindle and my laptop. The whole book arrived (one reviewer only received one chapter). Unfortunately some of the answers are incorrect although it has been stated that this has been corrected in the recent edition it definitely has not been corrected in the Kindle edition. I would also agree with Julian that some of the calculations are clumsy. I picked this up as a refresher – it’s okay but it could be clearer and simpler.
Update: It got an extra star added for the really good mock tests. Most tests I’ve found do not push you time wise or mathematically. The ones here are a bit more complex than others I’ve seen and whilst many questions are not the sort of calculations you would often do on the ward it increases confidence knowing that you can do them – and under time pressure. The answers are all correct on the tests too! The book is pretty much worth the Kindle price for these tests alone.

I’m due to start nursing in September and haven’t done any maths since my GCSEs. This book has been great for helping me brush up on existing maths knowledge, it begins with the basics and explains everything step by step – which is brilliant when you’ve not really done maths for 4 years! It then goes on to explain the more complex equations, but again, there explained very simply and step by step. The book also includes test questions to help you along a bit more, and it’s definitely given me the confidence to face the calculations exams I’ll be doing on my degree! Highly recommend for all future student nurses!
