My 10 year old tried to learn how to solve the Rubik’s cube using YT videos with no success. We got him this book and he’s now learnt the algorithms by heart. It’s not easy though: it took him and my husband several days to crack it, you really need to follow the steps very carefully, some parts are not too clear, and it’s easy to make mistakes. Without his dad’s help I doubt he would have solved it.

This book is amazing ???? But it is missing a step. When doing the cross, at least 2 edges should match their centres, and then you can swap the other 2 , if the ones matching are adjacent hold the cube so they are facing front and left and do R’ U R U’ R’, if they are opposites hold the cube so they are left and right and do : R2 L2 U2 R2 L2. Now all edges match their centres, follow the book. ???? I love it, Even doing patterns now????????????

This is a great book. I have tried to solve the cube using youtube videos but having a book is far superior. It has a nice section on the history of the cube too. The main part provides a step by step breakdown moving from the white side through the layers and to the opposite side. An excellent feature is that it has every movement recorded in a key at the bottom of every page, so you don’t need to flick around to remind yourself what D’ means.
A couple of tips: trust the steps, they work. If you think they have not worked its because you have made an error following the algo. I have now done it using the book many times with my daughter and its clear that it works if you follow it accurately. Secondly, read the instructions VERY carefully. The most easy thing to get wrong is the starting orientation for a particular step. The book’s diagrams are not as clear as they could be in showing which is the ‘front’ face, it actually switches between diagrams. However the narrative description always makes it clear what you should have at the front. My 9 year old has got real confidence from working through the steps and achieving the solution, but it has taken many hours. Adult help is definitely needed, but not because the book is hard to follow – it’s because solving is complex. Good luck!

Got this for my dad. I thought it would have step by step on how to solve it but it most of it was about the history and world records. Only the last 3 to 5 pages actually cotained on how to solve it.

This is a good book, it teaches you step by step how to solve the Rubik’s Cube. I have solved it several times now following the steps in the book.
The more you practice the less you will need the book, and eventually you will be able to solve it on your own.

Now my 9 year old son has learnt the method by heart and solves the cube in under 2 minutes! Great book once you get your head into it.

Very clear and succinct. Particularly like the way the 3rd layer (yellow) is solved. Other solutions are often confusing on this final layer and leave much to ambiguous interpretation.
