This really suits people who haven’t got much patience and are used to reading short Facebook posts! The essence of good essay writing is nicely presented in the book. It describes writing a good essay as baking a good cake and views elements of good writing as using the right ingredients and putting them together with the right method (right content + paragraphing). Lots of different level writing examples are given and the book finishes off with the author’s own essay he wrote during his studies at Oxford University. What a delight!

Not bad if you’re still in school but this is definitely not for people undertaking a degree. Completely misleading.

I just bought this and it is clear it is really aimed at the level of essays required from GCSE school students, to whom it may have some benefit But higher than not, not at all really. For example, proposes you should plan essays for ‘5 minutes’. And that good grammar is ‘not crucial’. I don’t think an A Level or University essay would do well with that kind of approach! Very basic guidance given.
