This is a funny story with lovely illustrations. Bush baby has left it too long and is “wiggly jiggly wobbly wobbly BURSTING for a wee”. We’ve all been there, Bush Baby… the ending gets a laugh every time. Good conversation starter if toilet training.

My Grandchildren aged 5 and 3 love this book
by Rosemary Standeven
I bought this book because I was so impressed with Karl Newson’s ‘Snug as a Bug?’ This is not as perfect as ‘Snug’ (what is?), but still deserves a full 5 stars.
The general idea behind this book, is to encourage newly potty-trained children to make sure they go to the toilet before leaving home. The main protagonist, a bushbaby, did not go at home and spends most of the book getting increasingly “jiggly-wiggly”, as he “really, really needs a wee” and cannot find anywhere to relieve himself.
Finally, after waiting in a very long queue for a toilet, there is relief. But it is short-lived, as now he needs a poo.
The illustrations are bright and wonderful – you can really feel the bushbaby’s urgency and discomfort. There is a lot of repetition, and rhyming – all hall-marks of a great kid’s book.
The book is not just for young children, but also for adults – for anyone who (like me) has a dodgy bladder, and has to be really certain to go to the toilet every time before leaving the house. And thanks to this book, I now have the perfect phrase in “jiggly-wiggly” to describe my anxiety when too far from an accessible loo.
Highly recommended

Our two and a half year old granddaughter loves this book and chuckles through it.

A good book for older children. A proper little funny story. Not really that helpful for a child who isn’t yet using the toilet (eg I have an older child not managing that stage yet). However he loves the story and perhaps it’ll help further down the line. They all love the funny story and I imagine it’ll help those who do the jiggle wee wee dance and don’t use the toilet before they go out!

So like most preschoolers, attempting to get our boy to pee despite dancing around like a loon in desperation was a nightmare.
We bought this and a couple other similar books and he instantly took a shine to this one. It’s really well illustrated and the message is super clear.
Now, whenever we can tell he needs a wee, or we’re about to leave the house, we only have to mention “bush baby” and he quite happily trundles off to the toilet with zero arguments.
Of you’re struggling, I’d definitely recommend giving this a try. At the very minimum, it’s a nice easy humorous read and one both you and child will enjoy.
