What an absolutely fantastic and gripping read Illicit Obsessions was! From the very first page where we are introduced to Jagger and the Secret Society, which is the Black Widow Society, I was hooked. It was filled to the brim with twists and turns and was nothing like I expected.
A couple of years ago, there was a fire at the home of step-siblings Ari and Jagger, and they were both made to believe the other had died. This would be a tragedy for most people, but it hurt even more for these two, as they were both in love. Several years have passed when they cross paths again, and they realise they’ve both been lied to by their parents.
They try to deal with their pasts, revealing what they have been through, from kidnapping to abuse, trafficking, and worse. They have both lived with a lot of guilt and pain, and now they need answers as to why they were ripped apart. But it’s not so easy to get answers, as it seems now that they’ve found each other again, the past is coming back to try and tear them apart a second time.
This book had so many unexpected twists and turns that it really held my attention and kept me wondering who or what was to blame for what had happened. I was sure certain people were involved when they weren’t, and some of the guilty parties came as a real shock. I think the author did a great job of keeping the tension building as the main characters dealt with betrayal and how to survive.
While there were brief mentions of them both being with other people while apart, they are both obsessed with each other, and there is nobody else for them. In addition to the taboo nature of a step-sibling relationship, there is the added element of BDSM and some dirty, depraved, spicy times, with Jagger affectionately referring to Ari as pet.

This is the first book that I have read from J A Owenby and I can honestly say that it won’t be the last.
What more could you want from a story

You honestly could not have gaged how this story was going to go as the twists and turns just kept you on your toes.
Jagger and Ariana four years ago had their life’s tore apart as a result of a house fire and both were told that the other had died.
Four years on and Jagger is a star football player and has joined the secret society, life is good. Things are better now then a night at the society throws a girl in front of him one he enjoys but things take a drastic change in his life when he realises this girl is Ariana the girl he thought was dead. How could she be here she was dead then realisation hits that she has lied to him, she broke his heart and left him empty. Now he wants answers and wants to destroy her.
Ariana was told he died in the fire that she was the reason he died. She lost herself that night, lost her very soul. He was the only one that held her heart and for the last four years her life has been hell. She had to get away from her ex he was older but he had a hold over her and no-one knew what he had done to her. She moves to a new school we’re her friends are and also she comes to realise Jagger is there too. But how is he here.
But are things actually what they appear to be, what happens when family secrets are exposed. Can these two move past the hurt and lies. Who can they trust. This story will have you on the edge of your seats and will keep you turning the pages.
Although this book is part of series they can be read as a stand alone.

When jagger was younger, his world fell apart when he lost the love of his life. For four years, he thought his stepsister had died until he bumps into a girl who looks exactly like her. He knows he should stay away, but will his head win over his heart?
This was my first dark romance book, and it was the perfect introduction into this world! I loved this book. It took over my life, and I want more!!! I adored the characters, the bad boy jagger, who isn’t really bad just life made him do things he wouldn’t have chose to do and Ariana the sweet quiet book girl with a dark past, who would do anything for her bad boy which made her a kick ass girl!!! And together they were amazing!!
The storylineline has so many twists and turns it has you hooked, with crime and mystery running all throughout the book the suspense is unreal!! Then you have the romance side of it with the touch her and die trope written so well!! I just couldn’t get enough, and I still want more!!!
I really enjoyed this book, and I will most certainly be reading more by J.A. Owenby in the near future!!

This is my 1st by JA Owenby. This is a Dark, Secret Society, Sports,Step Siblings and Enemies To Lovers Tropes.
I went in blind and was just in state of shock 1st half. Trying to guess what on earth had happened and why?!!! Books like this captivates your whole being because you want to know more!!!! I just couldn’t put it down at all until I had answers.
Both characters were so broken and I liked how they both grew with each others support. The trauma was hard for both.
Great story plot, drama, suspense, found family, friendship, love and steam.
