‘If I could give you one bit of advice right now, it would be to take all the energy you’re putting into fad diets and put it into becoming the most genuinely healthy version of you. If you’ve got a plan, you’re already halfway there. And now you’ve got this book, you’ve got one.’
Davinia Taylor was overweight, depressed and unmotivated. She couldn’t walk around the block, let alone go for a run or do an exercise class, and she struggled to keep up with her four young sons. In desperation she turned to biohacking to sort her head out – the unexpected bonus was that she lost nearly three stone and has kept it off for years through a series of health tricks from cold showers, to MCT oil, to ancestral eating.
She spent tens of thousands of pounds on specialists and Harley Street doctors, trying the most cutting-edge therapies available, only to discover that the true secrets of feeling amazing are very easy and affordable. Start with eating for your mental health, and weight loss is an effortless side effect.
Divided into four sections: Mood, Food, Movement and Rest, the book takes a holistic approach to weight loss, reminding you that true health is not just about what you eat. It’s Not a Diet concludes with a two-week reset programme to put Davinia’s advice into action easily and achievably.

I like the healthy way to change my diet. Have just started the 2 week meal plan. Can someone explain what do you eat after the 2 weeks (if I manage it) or do you keep repeating the 2 weeks ?

Nagged by my wife to buy her another diet book. Read once ! Now gathering dust. Don’t ask me if it worked.

Wow, this book has been a huge eye opener. I would go so far as to say that this is the best book I’ve read so far. Incredibly informative and down to earth.

Superb book. I’m not a massive reader, but I wanted to learn what I can about Biohacking, so I thought I’d start with this book. It’s an easy read, and I have to say it’s changed my whole outlook about losing weight, and knowing what your body needs. I love Davinias honesty, and her wealth of knowledge is phenomenal. Both books are dog eared because I keep referring back to them. I’ve recommended all of my friends to buy both books (because they’re not having min) . They have honestly changed my life.

Positives: definitely helps you focus on eating better quality foods with less chemicals. I’ve switched everything I can to Organic. I’m slowly changing over beauty buys to better quality items items. It does help even out the sugar crashes & mood swings. And I absolutely love Kombucha and have completely given up soft drinks.
Cold showers and an Acupressure mat have a positive affect on me. BUT
Firstly, all the stuff you need to buy is EXPENSIVE, unless you’re well off there’s no way you can just go out & buy the more expensive food & medicines you need. It would take time to accumulate it, then would have wasted your money if your body doesn’t take to it. Alow Vera Juice never gets better!
Really not good if you have IBS, nowhere near enough fruit & veg that is needed for successfull digestion. I lasted 5 days & every day was a struggle with IBS.
Absolutely not good if you are food addict/ suffer from yoyo dieting. I understand the lady had drink addiction, but whilst it can help with the mood swings, having a free reign with all that fat is NOT a good outcome & so starts the seasaw effect.
It’s very scientifically orientated, which I like, but if my body cannot handle it, it makes no difference.
It gives a 2 week reprogramming diet but doesn’t say what to do after that. So leaves things a bit confusing.
I like the authors humourous but knowledgeable approach, but she has definitely come from an exceptionally privileged background that obviously has given greater opportunities for life enhancing changes, for her, but its not easily translatable if you’re less well off. You just realise the junk that is put into our everyday food but can’t always do anything about without great sacrifice.
I’m glad it’s worked for her, I have picked up quite a few life changes, but overall doesn’t consistently suit my body.

I love the authenticity. I thought with advice about stuff she had asked the expert it was delivered in a way to promote the expert instead of what she had learned by trying the advice. (This is why 4 star instead of 5). However, I have made some changes and I agree with a lot too what miss Taylor promotes. Worth a read.

If you follow her, you’ll know Davinia is so relatable & genuinely wants to share the experiences she’s had with getting to where she is today & help people. She frequently reminds her readers that she is NOT a doctor, qualified nutrionist etc etc. But I’d rather take advice from someone who’s learnt from their mistakes and found their own way to wellness than from someone who’s just read books and remembered a lot of information about the same subject. I’ve taken an awful lot from this book and there’s also some stuff I probably won’t bother with…I was sceptical about IF, but gave it a go anyway along with paying attention to my nutrition needs (not eating processed rubbish) and I am pretty shocked at how well my body has responded so far! Love Davinia!
