I like this book. The information on how to grow veg is brilliant and makes me want to have a go, and I’m not a green fingered person at all.

I made the Eggy Breakfast Crumpets for my husband one lunchtime (It’s the only Piece of “crumpet” he’s allowed at home!), and it’s one of the quickest, easiest and economical things to make and can be used as a meal for any time of the day.

My three year old twins took an interest to it and I made a total of eight crumpets for breakfast the following morning, omitting the chilli, using bacon and sausage and my daughter polished off nearly three of them! What a successfull recipe. We are looking forward to trying some more recipes very soon.

Bought this second hand as had just watched the TV series – arrived promptly and in good order.
Book a bit disappointing – why have all the lovely artwork for the TV series and not put it in the book. Ah well, still useful growing info in there.

This is the 2nd book I bought and by far the better one. I wanted to start growing some veg but also to know what to do with them once I harvested them. This book has given me some really good ideas on what to grow next year.

As for the recipes, they look great on the page and sound easy, but me being a bit of a coward in the kitchen, I wasn’t sure if I could attempt them – Well how wrong was I !!! I am now a wizard at pizza including the base and the sauce and found them really easy and satisfying to do. I have cooked things that I would only ever normally buy ready made from a shop and it tastes sooooooooooo much better and I know exactly what is in it.

Love it – buy it !!!

On looking at the recipes there are quite a few basic dishes like salads that have been dressed up a lot with various ingredients (so are overlong to prepare)which I am not sure are really necessary – a salad is, after all, a salad. I would also have liked to have seen the illustrations that were used in the TV series as these looked very easy to follow. There are also a few recipes that are from ‘Jamie’s Dinners’. There are also recipes for wild game but most of us do not have access to this, even when living in the country as I do.

On the positive side, the book is good when it comes to using the seasonal vegetables you have growing in your garden and his enthusiasm for using these is clear to see. The cookbook is definitely best for using during the summer months and I look forward to using some of the vegetable-based recipes. So, overall a three star rating which I hope is fair..

I decided to get this book after seeing the series on Sunday evenings (usually while eating my Sunday dinner!) and it is a joy even just to look at – lovely pictures and illustrations. This Saturday however, hubby and I decided to try the roast shoulder of lamb recipe and it was a joy to do as well as eat afterwards. Jamie writes in the book pretty much as he talks (though someone edits it before it goes to print). The bit I like most is that he talks and writes with such enthusiasm for vegetables, herbs and the meats he cooks. After a lifetime of using a jar of mint sauce for lamb, I’m starting to reconsider and would be happier doing the mint sauce Jamie came up with for the shoulder of lamb. It was straightforward to make and much more flavour than the jar stuff!

A great book, readable and well presented with interesting with recipes that I appreciate from the series. I have several of Jamie’s cookbooks but would suggest that you really need to watch this series – or at least some of the episodes – to inspire you to use the recipes. They look mouthwatering and simple to do on the TV…perhaps a little less inspiring just from the book.

I watched the series some years ago and enjoyed it very much and wished I could have the book! Jamie cooks appealing meals using simple ingredients that we can find at local markets or grow at home, even if we have a garden or just a windowsill. Also great are the tips about different kinds of meat and the best season to grow vegetables. The book has great photos and a clean design.
It is a great buy and I would recommend this book.

This is one of his best books, the others have not inspired me but this rustic style of cooking is superb and delivers delish! flavours.
I find him a tad annoying on the television but to watch the meals being prepared tempts you into trying them, with great results.

The roasted shoulder of lamb was a success but the smashed veg were a little weird, just reminded me of lumpy mash but this is easily solved.
The pappardelle with braised leeks and porcini pangratta was very flavoursome and will appear on my repertoire again.
The bubble and squeak, sausages & onion gravy was also beautiful but the amount of balsamic vinegar recommended was too overpowering for my tastes.

With a few very tiny alterations to the recipes I can highly recommend it
