Excellent value 2nd hand book. The content was much better than expected. I was thinking it would be all fast food but it had a lot of ethnic recipes. I particularly liked the Navajo sections. Lots of new ideas to inspire.

    Jamie’s America

Purchased this book as a gift for my sister who is a big Jamie Oliver fan. Having watched his American tour she desperately wanted to try out some of the recipes and so far has been totally impressed. If there is any criticism at all it would be that the quantities need to be halved in some instances for your average family of 4. Overall, she loves it and would recommend to anyone wishing to try authentic american dishes.

I thought it was magnificent – in all respects;not just for the imaginative cooking Jamie re-created from ‘authentic’ meals (note the use of the word ‘meals’ not just recipies!) on site in USA amongst those who have lived their lives cooking these meals, but the whole way that the book has been crafted. Crafted like a special heirloom – which to me it is. Thank you (yet again) Jamie (and David Loftus) for something so very special.

This is a delightful book, a real joy to read. It is the first book I have bought by Jamie Oliver and will encourage me to buy another. Jamie takes us on a voyage through much of America, sharing his experiences in an original and thoughtful way, at the same time as introducing us to American food.

Most of the recipes are certainly not for those of us watching our weight, although the broccoli salad won’t cause too much harm.

I feel this would be a good book for a themed American party as the quantities are generous and would appeal to children and young people everywhere.

The presentation is nothing short of excellent, there is a full colour photo of every single recipe to show you what it should look like

This really is a special piece of work – the research has obviously been carried out by a whole team of people (it would have taken one person years I should think!), but Jamie Oliver’s enthusiasm shines through in his descriptions of the history, the people, and the places that have inspired his recipes. So, this isn’t just a cookery book, its a personal guided tour of all those areas of the States I’d love to visit. Even if you didn’t see the tv series, I reckon you’ll still love this book, because as well as an historical overview, it offers insight into the people and places you wouldn’t necessarily come across wthout him! The photography is excellent too – a great Christmas present (if you can bear to part with it!).

Like the TV series this is a great book, but if you’re a veggie like me beware, it’s very heavily focused on meat recipes. At least my friends and family will be happy. I can’t wait to try the cheese cake. I’ve already had the beans and they were yummy. Jamie as ever describes the recipes in a very easy to follow manor which makes cooking even for beginners easy. This book is really rammed full of recipes.

I really like this book, its got a great combo of recipes, Some are a little faffy and over the top and i’d avoid those, but there are plenty of other gems, especially the Louisiana / New Orleans recipes.
    Definately recommend!
Ive given it 4 instead of 5, because there were a few less recipes than i thought i could try after having a look through, some are a little too much for me I think, but a definate must buy.

Great simple recipes. I love all Jamie books and the way that they are laid out.

Would recommend this book as it has some really yummy recouped in it and they don’t take that long to cook.
