Jane Eyre on Social Media: The perfect gift for Brontë fans

Reader, she married him. But not before a LOT of discussion of his behaviour in the group chat.

With courage, determination and logged into her social media accounts – plain Jane Eyre is ready to take on the world. But then she meets and begins to fall for Edward Rochester, AKA the definition of a red flag, with screenshots to prove it.

When authors Claire McGowan and Sarah Day imagined how ‘Pride and Prejudice on Social Media’ might look, retelling the story through mocked-up social media posts, their post instantly went viral. Now, they return with a Bronte classic told through highs and lows of social media . . .

Perfect for fans of Charlotte Brontë . . .

If you read nothing else this year, read this! It’s honestly the best read of the year.

It’s a retelling of Jane Eyre, told as if social media were alive then. Characters from other stories, both American and English (Mrs de Winter, Elizabeth Bennett, John Brooke….) and the original, peripheral cast each wade in on the social media posts, with their advice.

Not only is it a clever idea for a retelling, it’s charming, witty and downright hilarious!

Buy multiple copies to give as Christmas gifts 🙂

You are either going to love this book or hate it. One for sampling before you buy I think. I also think it will help if you already know the story before you go in. In fact, for full enjoyment, you’ll also need a bit of background of a few other classic books as they and their characters are referenced throughout.
So… it’s the classic tale of Jane Eyre, orphan, lived with family, sent to school, became a teacher… etc etc… All played out in the wonderful world of social media. Yes the title does give it away somewhat.
Using forums, group chats, DMs, and other online goodies, we follow – quite accurately – the original Brontë story. From many different perspectives.
Highlights for me were some of the group chats of those who work for Rochester, especially Grace Poole. I also loved certain characters’ forays into asking for advise on certain forums. It all did make me laugh. Lots!
I see from the author’s back catalogues that they have also retold Pride and Prejudice in a similar way. I’m definitely going to seek that bad boy out.
My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

I really enjoyed this short and snappy take on the classic, Jane Eyre. I loved the epistolary format and the humorous take on the story. It was a bonus that it featured other famous characters from classic literature, advising Jane in a forum. Really well done and difficult to put down. I see the authors have done the same thing with Pride and Prejudice and I am definitely adding that to my TBR.

I would definitely recommend this book to fans of the classics, satire and epistolary books
