£15.40£19.00 (-19%)
Easy and quick thirty minute recipes from Britain’s best-loved healthy chef and the nation’s favourite PE teacher, Joe Wicks.
Bestselling author Joe Wicks, aka The Body Coach, presents this gorgeous book featuring more than a hundred nutritious recipes that are perfect for sharing. Proving once again that you don’t need loads of time to cook great food, Joe’s 30 Minute Meals is packed with everyday healthy dishes that you’ll want to make, time and time again.
Most chapters are simply organized by main ingredient, making it easy to find a recipe for every occasion. Every recipe is labelled as either reduced-carb or carb-refuel, which makes this book a brilliant addition for those already familiar with Joe’s popular Lean in 15 eating structure (carbs following workouts or on active days), but the meals are also enjoyable and tasty for all, whether you are following Joe’s plan or not.
If you’re looking for a crowd-pleasing lunch like the Bang Bang Chicken Stir-Fry or something tasty to chuck in the oven at the end of a long day such as Joe’s Sausage and Mushroom Pie, Joe’s 30 Minute Meals makes it easy to make a fuss-free, tasty plate of food, every single day.
The man who kept the nation moving during lockdown, Joe has sold more than 3 million books in the UK alone. He has more than 4 million followers on social media, where fans share their journeys towards a leaner, fitter lifestyle. All of his books have been non-fiction number one bestsellers.

The recipes are okay – not as quick and easy as the title would suggest – though the exotic food photography and the pics of Joe “skateboarding” are as annoying as his admission in the acknowledgements of how he doesn’t actually do much. Don’t waste your time, there are better recipe books out there!

I have all three of Joe’s Lean in 15 books and have cooked many of the great recipes dozens of times over. Recently, I bought his latest book: ‘Joe’s 30-minute meals’ which came out earlier this month. There are 100 quick and healthy recipes, a delectable feast for anyone embarking – or continuing – on their weight loss and exercise plan. Realising that some recipes do take longer than 15 minutes to cook, he decided to write a comprehensive book where recipes take a bit more time.
After a friendly welcome by Joe, he sets out how the book will work for you, by organising the book by main ingredients: All-Day Breakfast, Chicken, Beef and Pork and so on. After the introduction, he helpfully lists the ingredients you’ll need for your store-cupboard so that you can just choose any recipe and not have to rush out to buy the main ingredients for it. He also lists extras that he loves which just add that little bit more to a recipe.
Then you start with All-Day Breakfasts and written in Joe’s usual style of banter, you’re in for a real feast – not only for the eyes with the amazing colour photographs of what your dish should look like – but also with what you’ve prepared.
There are some recipes which have vegetarian alternatives, but it is not a vegetarian cook book – you’ll have to wait for December for his vegetarian recipe book to come out. All the meals look fabulous; and if you’re familiar with Joe’s other books, you’ll know that you’re in for a treat when the Master of the Midget Trees puts a meal together.
Unlike the Lean in 15 books, there are no work-outs but each recipe is labelled ‘reduced-carb’ or ‘carb-refuel’ so you’ll know which days to eat them on, depending if you’re doing a work out or not.
This is a feast for the eyes as well as the belly. It’s a really great book.

As a stand alone book, if you have no other similar books, then this is pretty good with some reasonable ideas. If you are a vegetarian or a vegan then you should look elsewhere as most recipes will be unsuitable (although there are a few vegetarian substitutes noted). There are probably a few too many chicken recipes for my liking and a few too many including noodles. For a ‘healthy’ recipe book quite a lot of processed meats, particularly chorizo, appear. Overall though, there are some recipes that you won’t see elsewhere that are definitely worth trying or adapting to suit yourself.
This book is well-presented and will sell many copies I am sure due to the popularity of the author. I certainly couldn’t criticise too much about it as I can appreciate how difficult it must be to produce a book like this. I would like to have seen a vegetarian chapter as not everyone wants to eat meat or fish with every meal. The sweet treats chapter could probably have been a little more extensive as well, perhaps at the expense of some of the chicken recipes. Quite a good book overall though that I wouldn’t dissuade anyone from buying.
You can look inside the book and see some of these details, but for completeness the contents page looks like this:

This is the second of Joe’s books I’ve bought recently (the other being cooking for friends and family.)
This differs in that it’s divided into food chapters-fish, meat, treats etc. Although the low and high carb recipes are labelled, they are not in any order within the chapter, which would help.
It’s an ‘okay’ book and the recipes are simple and quick. I will use quite a number of recipes, but others are not very different to his other book, much along the lines of ‘roast a chicken breast and throw some veg and chorizo in the roasting tray’, or the same with a fillet of fish. But some interesting ideas like using roast aubergine slices for a ‘pizza’ base and the carrot and courgette fritters. Obviously, it’s easy to change any ingredients you don’t like. I don’t agree that the recipes need lots of expensive ingredients (herbs and spices) because it’s easy to omit those and the dish will still be fine!
The main criticism is the frequent use of chorizo (which for a health-focused book is not healthy) and the same for coconut oil where the jury is still out on its health benefits. There’s quite a bit of garlic and hot spices too but again, if that’s not your style, you could make small adaptations.
