Average, good read, but a lot left out.
Does not cover until 1988.
Born Brilliant is the one to read.

I bought this for my mum whose quite picky with her books, it was listed as very good, so I didn’t expect perfection. When it arrived it had dents and crumbles where you’d expect (corners) which I could get over, but also came with quite a lot of mold spots along the top edge (and therefore an unpleasant smell) and quite a big non-easy-removal sticker on the back.
I had to spend a fair while trying to sand off the mold, carefully take the sticker off, scrub off remaining glue and wipe off the book in general to get it into a state I felt alright giving it as a present.
I understand the book is old, and you can’t buy it new anymore, but I think listing it as “very good” was a bit of a stretch.
That might just be my mums high book standard rubbing off on me though.

Kenneth Williams a truly brilliant man,the book is very well written as you would expect from such an articulate man.The stories are very interesting and well told,if i am honest i was expecting more from our Kens Autobiography, maybe more of his darker side to be revealed. But if you want that there is always the brilliant Diaries, but this is more about his working relationships more than anything else..Still very enjoyable though..

What is there to say about Kenneth Williams? A fantastic comic actor with the flip side of being a complex person in real life. This biography is a joy to read and KW provides some very good tales of his life. Highly recommended.

All are worth reading. Funny in a stylish way. Thoroughly enjoyed all three!

I had this book many years ago & lost it, so this was a replacement. It’s a really good read, & an insight into this very talented, but deeply troubled man. It’s a tragic tale in a way, but so well written, another gift of his. It’s well worth reading.

Loved by more people than he would ever allow himself to believe this is ultimately a sad book. Much is known of the life of KW but little of his true feelings. This book gives you a little insight but not much – after all he was the ultimate private person and did not allow many to have access to his deeper thoughts, maybe not even his beloved mother.
A fascinating conundrum and I, for one, can’t get enough of him. But there’s little to be had – anywhere.
I would like to say it is an enjoyable read but, if you read between the lines, it is anything but. However, compelling it certainly is, and I’ve no problem recommending it to anyone who remembers him.

A much better book than his diary and letters books written by his biographiers
