This was a lovely read enjoyed from the moment I picked it up to right at the end, now I have just finished reading the other book in the series called “Kitty McKenzie’s Land”. I found this the best one and very touching right to the end. Well done AnnMarie Brear you really can write novels and hold the read well. Thank you very much.

This is my first AnneMarie Brear book and it certainly wasn’t a disappointment either. A pacy read, and not a rush to the end either, as so many other authors of this type of a book tend to do nowadays. An enthralling book from page 1.
Well done AnneMarie….. I put you in the same class of writing as Dilly Court, Anne Baker and Rita Bradshaw and I am looking forward to reading more of your books.

I feel I have found another very good author. I have now read three of AnneMarie Brear’s books and they have all been excellent. They have a proper ending which I like.

I absolutely loved this book! I read it years ago, and again more recently when it was published on Amazon Kindle. Kitty McKenzie faces many trials in this novel… as a reader I was there with her every step of the way. It appears at the beginning of the book that she’s a woman who has lost it all: her home, her parents and sister to typhoid, peace of mind, and the financial security she once had, but one thing she hasn’t lost is her determination to succeed. Kitty does everything she can to keep the remainder of her family together, working hard on the market and eventually attempting to better her position in life. [I don’t want to give too much away but the reader will not be disappointed at the outcome of this story! ] It’s a truly satisfying read. The author brought Victorian York alive for me, I felt as if I was actually there walking the streets with Kitty and encountering many of the vibrant characters she meets along the way. It’s a novel that left a deep impact on me and one I definitely regard as a keeper!

I did enjoy this book but didn’t love it. The characters were likeable and the story interesting but it didn’t really hold me. I won’t be getting the next in series.
