I came across her first book The Salt Path by chance and am totally hooked by her writing style. Funny, sad, enlightening, uplifting and brutally honest in her biographical recording of the hardship of loosing her & Moths home and I’ll health. Everyone I’ve given her books have been enthralled to turn the next page and reach the end of them(3 as of 11/23)

Ray or Winn has written another captivating diary of journey through life. Following her belief and maps recording scenery, weather and wildlife along their route through Britain. Thoughtful observations on nature and mankind, posing questions for the reader to ponder.

Raynor Winn lives in Cornwall with her husband, Moth, and their dog. Her first book, The Salt Path, was shortlisted for both the Wainwright Prize and the Costa Book Awards in 2018. In 2023, filming began for a movie adaptation of the book began.
2013 couldn’t have gone much worse for Raynor and her husband, Moth. After a three year court battle, the couple lost their home. A few days later, Moth was diagnosed with CBD – a degenerative disease, for which there is no cure. Hiding under the stairs, with the bailiffs hammering at the door, Raynor’s eye fell on book she’d read in her twenties. “Five Hundred Mile Walkies” told the story of a man who’d walked the South West Coast Path with his dog. With nowhere else to go, the couple – on a whim – decided to follow the same route. Admittedly, Moth’s diagnosis was a concern – this was exactly the sort of thing he shouldn’t have been fit for. However, the sustained period of hiking seemed to help him fight off the symptoms of his condition. Their trip along the South West Coast Path was told along in “The Salt Path.”
“Landlines” is her third book, her second sequel to The Salt Path. The couple have continued to hike and, while they were able to do so, Moth remained in much better health than the experts ever thought possible. However, with Covid and Lockdowns, the couple – like the rest of the country – were kept confined. As a result, when the book opens (in 2020), Moth’s health has deteriorated significantly. Raynor isn’t ready to given up yet; she clings to the hope that another long hike will somehow bring Moth back to her. Nearly as soon as it’s legal, she tries to nudge a very reluctant Moth back out the door and plants the seed of the Cape Wrath Trail in his head. Against their better judgement, in spite of the belief that Moth’s CBD had now gone too far, the pair set off for Scotland. What happens, after they set off, wasn’t quite what they expected.
An easily read book, and a pair I can’t help but care about. It’s clear the couple care greatly for the natural world, and for people’s right to spend time in nature. If you’ve enjoyed the first two book, you’ll certainly enjoy this instalment. Very much recommended.

I bought this for my husband following a review in “Country Living” magazine. He says it is one of the best books he has ever read and he is now onto the other two written by this very talented lady who has an amazing story to tell.
