Son and daughter both studying for PGCE and this is top of both their reading lists. I’m a teacher of 30 years and had a read myself so I can vouch that the main theories are clearly explained.
Is this a valuable read though? For learning, yes, for the experienced teacher though it’s something you just do without having to know the names and details of every teaching/learning theory.

Best thing I ever bought! So well organised, abundant amount of theories ranging from theorists to behaviour to classroom management and techniques. The only book I know reccomend to everyone I see. Also has this amazing breakdown of each chapter, gives you the information, has critical analysis and then offers additional books to read specially for that theory.

Brilliant book. It’s laid out so well and has ideas on how to incorporate each learning theory into the classroom. It’s been invaluable in my current essay on learning theories

I bought this while studying on a doctoral programme. I needed to have an overview of learning theories to support my doctoral research and papers. I find it very helpful having 130 theories to hand. I can quickly go through and find the theory that best explains my findings. It could also be helpful in coming up with research topics. Pick a theory and test how it works in different scenarios. I have been recommending this book since I began using it. Get it!

I am currently studying the Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training and have found the reading for assignments a struggle. Books on theorists don’t tend to be ‘gripping’. Bob Bates Learning Theories Simplified has done just that, broken down theory into easy to comprehend chapters, which has been invaluable to my learning journey. It covers a wide range of theorists and models and has been more useful than all the other books I have combined.

If you are completing a LEVEL 5 DET or QTLS this is the best book that you could invest in. Gives you so many theories, how to use it in the classroom and easily referencing.

It’s a book recommended on to me by my tutor. I haven’t had chance to use it yet but have looked through, it gives you the parts you need and goes more in depth to help you wrap your head around the subject better if you’re struggling. It also gives you something to think about and look for more from. Good purchase
