The purpose of this project is to provide a collection of unfiltered insights from paralegals, trainee solicitors, associates and partners working across the legal sector at a range of organisations including in-house companies and private practice law firms.
This resource might interest you if you are: an aspiring solicitor interested in learning more about the legal sector, a paralegal who wants to learn from other paralegals that recently obtained training contracts, a trainee solicitor moving into a different department and want to hear from another trainee solicitor who has recently completed that seat, a final seat trainee solicitor preparing for qualification, looking to move in-house, interested in commercial law.
This book also focuses on topics such as Mental Health and Diversity and Inclusion by featuring legal professionals from BAME and LGBT+ backgrounds.
All contributors gave consent to their responses being included in the book. Each contributor was also asked to consent for their name and employment title to be included in the book.

This book accomplishes a whole host of things at once, which is perhaps what makes it such an incredible achievement. Not only does it educate on the many different paths into law, it elucidates on the experiences of lawyers at varying levels in their careers, in different seats, with different backgrounds and experiences, and at different firms.
As a previous applicant and now a future trainee, there was so much that resonated with me or inspired my drive in the future! Particularly useful for me were the insights into different seats, the transition from trainee to NQ and the interview process that accompanies it. Moreover, because many of the lawyers interviewed were very senior in their respective firms, the book provides strong and clear advice for those about to embark or just beginning to embark on their own legal careers.
My favourite thing about this book is that it creates greater access to the legal field. These unfiltered and candid responses should be widely available for aspiring solicitors and Matt has taken us a step closer in that direction. Not only that, but all the proceeds will go towards funding the journeys of aspiring lawyers in the future. This is an accomplishment he should be incredibly proud of.

I would and have recommended this to any young people interested in a legal career. It is a useful entrance key into the profession for people from any background. This is an especially important book giving the difficulties and hoops that one must cross to enter the legal sector.

As someone who doesn’t study law this was very informative in what a carer in commercial law looks like. In particular I liked reading about lawyers working at companies like Channel 4, UBS as well as a lawyer at Arsenal talking about brining Coldplay to the Emirates stadium.

This book is so engaging from cover to cover, with insights from top professionals in a broad selection of firms and practice areas. It will enhance your understanding of the training contract process and improve your knowledge of the profession itself. Overall, a fantastic buy and I would recommend it to any aspiring solicitor!

I am not in the legal profession. i have an interest in some aspects of law firms (cybersecurity and AI based on my teaching for AI). I met Matthew since he was a student in a niche cybersecurity for AI course that I teach at the university of oxford. Its inspiring to see how he has been working hard to make the legal profession both inclusive and also sharing his own experiences of getting a job in a law firm(in COVID times). In that context, I heard about this book and bought it for a teen daughter of a friend who wants to study law in the UK. The book has been useful to my friends daughter as an insider view. Its easy to read and draws upon experiences of many legal professionals to complement Matthew’s own experience. Happy to recommend the book based on my experience as above.
