Legalese: Do you understand, means, ‘Do you stand under my authority’ Simply propaganda not legalese!’
by V. A. Adams
This book is concise and easy to read. The explanations are clear and simple. Now for the bad news: this is a book written by an American for Americans. This means that it is a book about American legal terminology. It is a small dictionary of Latin terms (with English translations) that are used in American legal documents and the American legal profession. How much of this terminology is applicable to the British legal system is not mentioned. There are legal terms used in the British legal system that are not listed in this book, for example: qui tacet consentit (which literally means ‘Silence betokens consent’). This is missing from this book. I would imagine there are other British legal terms that are not listed as well, so if you are a British law student studying British law your best bet is to get hold of an English equivalent dictionary dealing specifically with British legal terms.

This book has helped me understand a lot of Latin. I am currently a law student and hope to bolster my speeches in court with this Latin, I have you to thank for that.
