We are bombarded by perfect interiors, images that aren’t attainable because they have been styled to the point where they bear no resemblance to reality. These interiors may be stunning, but they aren’t an honest reflection of how we really live.

Life Unstyled is about taking inspiration from real homes that are beautiful, creative and inspiring but at the same time a little rough around the edges, with signs of everyday life evident throughout. The first section, ‘Homes Unstyled’, sets out Emily’s manifesto for creating a stylish home that is beautiful but lived in. A Home is Never Done advocates allowing your space to evolve gradually so it is an ever-changing expression of your tastes and interests. Work with What You’ve Got suggests ways to make the most of the home you have rather than yearning for unattainable perfection. Signs of Life offers ideas for wrangling papers, clutter and other stuff. Creative Clutter tackles collections and displays, while Break the Rules rejects style diktats and shows how individuality can bring a home to life. The second section, ‘People Live Here’, visits real-life homes that are definitely not perfect yet display incredible style and creativity and reflect their owners’ needs, tastes and style. And throughout the book, quick fixes, DIY makes and ‘Every Home Should Have…’ boxes offer creative solutions with unique results.

Life Unstyled is a fantastic new edition of the previously published title of the same name.

Really enjoyed this book, inspirational. I liked that the homes were from different countries with a variety of styles. Great motivation to make your home your own.

Despite of never writing a book review before I felt compelled to do so as this is the best home decor book I’ve ever handled.
If you look at pictures in books and magazines longingly despite of knowing that minimalism can never be your thing and reigning in the chaos in the wake of children, pets, multiple hobbies and interests just demands time you haven’t got -you need this book. Even if your home remains the untamed beast it always was, this book makes you feel so much better about it.
I want more and I haven’t got to the end yet! (I’m reading it during my tea breaks from the house detangling project inspired by this book, so far it is keeping me motivated, no enthused!) Looking forward to Life Unstyled Vol. 2.

I love, love, love this book. Gorgeous pictures on every page. It is all so me. My head is bursting with ideas for decorating my gorgeous home on a river…a narrow boat. It is all about picking out little areas of the big rooms in the book and merging them together in my small space. I highly recommend this stunning book. Definitely for someone who likes ‘different’.

I accidentally ordered this on kindle and it doesn’t work for the pictures – I did mean to order a hard copy. However, I already feel better about my chaos at home – the author points out that it is ok to have messy areas such as things on your dressing table and side tables. There is a lot of good advice about how to live and order your chaos. I will probably order this in hard copy as it would make make more sense with the pictures.

Would be 5 stars but it loses its way a bit at times and shows rather stylish, perfectly styled rooms! That said the pics are fab and there are lots of ’em.

This book was bought as a gift for my sister who was absolutely delighted with it. Delivery was next day I couldn’t be more pleased

Interesting book, and love the fact it’s not homes perfect. But for me too vintage, and some very very cluttered, that’s a personal choice but can take ideas and change things so helpful in that way.
