WINNER OF THE SUNDAY TIMESSPORTS BOOK AWARDS AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF THE YEAR 2023
With foreword by Ian Wright & afterword by Jermain Defoe
Beth Mead is one of the world’s most talented footballers – Golden Boot winner and Player of the Tournament at the UEFA Euro 2022, England Player of the Year 2021-22, Arsenal Player of the Season 2021-22, and runner-up for the 2022 Ballon d’Or. But long before this, Beth was just an ordinary kid from Hinderwell, North Yorkshire who wanted to play football.
From being placed in the local boys’ team as a child because her mum wanted her to run off her boundless energy, to joining Middlesbrough FC’s Centre of Excellence and making her professional debut at Sunderland, Beth and women’s football have come a long way.
Now, Beth shares the challenges that shaped her, what she faced on the journey to the top, and the life events that made her stronger – from being dropped from the England squad and receiving devastating family news, to finding her best form under the guidance of Jonas Eidevall and Sarina Wiegman. Filled with positive lessons and an exclusive account of England’s triumphant Euros campaign, Beth offers readers of all ages a heartfelt, behind-the-scenes look into her remarkable journey to glory.
Empowering, inspirational and honest, this is Beth’s story.

What a absolute star. Definitely don’t rent a flat in Wakefield to Beth’s lovely family. Stay at mine. All welcome beth.
I absolutely love the lionesses. Never watched football on tv. Till these ladies came along.
My daughter played football with a boys team and sadly had to stop playing at 11., Due not being allowed to play in a boys team. Who knows where she could have been now. Hopefully better outcome now for 11 years olds.
All the very best for the future beth. X

This is the most inspiring and inspirational book I have ever read! Beth didn’t give anyone any doubt how much she has dedicated her life to football and how much she has suffered with anxiety throughout her life. She thoroughly deserves all the accolades she has received. Having watched all the European Championship Women’s matches I became very emotional reliving their progress through Beth’s eyes and both she and Katie Whyatt should be so proud of the book they have written. A True Lioness and hope she gets over her latest injury to go back to the job she clearly loves!

Well packaged, fascinating book

A well written insight into professional football for women. Apart from being an excellent female footballer Beth comes across as a very intelligent young person. Just a shame she was let down by the men of Sunderland AFC which necessitated her transfer to Arsenal.
