This is a brilliantly written book on how to make a collagraph print. The most informative and and instructive book on the subject that I have read.

An excellent little book. A really good introduction to collagraph techniques, especially if you already have some familiarity with printmaking in general. Anyone who’s never done any printmaking at all might struggle a little with some of the terminology, but there is a handy glossary and everything is clearly explained with no unnecessary detail. There is also a list of UK suppliers and suggested further reading and websites.

The book was smaller than expected , but had methods and helpful information for anyone starting out with Collagraph Printing . A good starting point as not so much information as to be overwhelming .

Firstly, good value for money – lots of photos. I have gone through it roughly and note there are lots of methods described and in quiet detail. Each example is written in numbered points which would need a bit of concentration- clearly written in themselves but quite I expect would need at least one reading before you embark on a process. Not the book for the total beginner- however I look forward to showing it to my printing tutor who will think it fantastic. (includes both relief and intaglio methods – later needs an etching press, but looking for trying this used carborundum gel and carborundum.

Excellent book for anyone interested in this process, more than enough food for thought and examples to aspire towards. Concise explanations and little waffle, a wide range of approaches to printing from the basic with minimal tools to much more advanced and complicated.
One negative with my copy down to printer & publisher, first signature of the book has been incorrectly imposed so that contents and prelims start halfway in, and pages are mixed up, should have been spotted!

I have really enjoyed this book, it is a great source of information regarding different techniques that can be used in collagraphs, many of them that I had never heard before, such as: viscosity printing, color rolls and glazes, etc.
The book is packed with hands-on concrete advice on how to prepare a collagraph plate, ink it, prepare the paper, etc. The images are beautiful and provide an excellent complement to the written instructions.
A very handy glossary of terms is provided at the end of the book, which I understand for the experienced printmaker is probably not needed, but for me (as an amateur) was a blessing.
The last chapter “Proofing and editioning” was also of great use for me, since I had no idea how to number/sign and just in general prepare my final prints.
I will definitely be using this book for inspiration/guidance and ideas regarding collagraphs, it is a great introduction to the technique.
As the title indicates, my only critique is that it is very short and when I received it, I was a bit disappointed and felt a bit cheated. But upon reading it (despite the size), I realized it had lot of great information.

This is absolutely the best book out on this subject. Don’t get the other one with more hype- that doesn’t go into anywhere enough detail.
The author is candid and her style is easy to read.
I’d recommend this for anyone who wants to try the fascinating world of making collagraphs.

Although quite a short book, as with others in this fairly new series from a praiseworthy publisher, the contents are necessarily focussed and the related images of high quality. There’s a useful bibliography too, not only of books but internet resources as well. The range of techniques in collagraphy are covered concisely with enough information to get started, or if mid-way in this technique, push a project along. It differs from the A&C Black book by having more emphasis on technique, rather than a few pages of introduction, followed by porfolios and artist summaries, which you may or may not like. I learned a lot, and noted two further manuals listed and described in the bibliography and bought on marketplace.
