Making It: How Love, Kindness and Community Helped Me Repair My Life
£9.20£9.50 (-3%)
The Sunday Times bestseller by Jay Blades, the beloved star of hit BBC One show The Repair Shop. Making It is an inspirational memoir about beating the odds and turning things around even when it all seems hopeless.
We had our hardships, and there were times that we didn’t have a lot of food and didn’t have a lot of money. But that didn’t stop me having the time of my life.
In his book, Jay shares the details of his life, from his childhood growing up sheltered and innocent on a council estate in Hackney, to his adolescence when he was introduced to violent racism at secondary school, to being brutalized by police as a teen, to finally becoming the presenter of the hit primetime show The Repair Shop.
Jay reflects on strength, weakness and what it means to be a man. He questions the boundaries society places on male vulnerability and how letting himself be nurtured helped him flourish into the person he is today. An expert at giving a second life to cherished items, Jay’s positivity, pragmatism and kindness shine through these pages and show that with care and love, anything can be mended.

A really interesting read about Jay and his life and upbringing. Its about his childhood in the East End, the good and the bad, its brutally honest, how he had to move round the country, dodge trouble and getting into trouble, how he saw women and had his children, the hardships in his life, the ups and downs, how people came into his life and picked him up when he needed help, and how he got into furniture restoration and TV. Would recommend.

Delivered with timescale and well packaged. I’m a fan of the Repair Shop TV programme; as well as the spin-offs so thought this would be a good read. Some surprising facts about Jay Blades and well written; as if he was talking to you. Would recommend as a very good read and a good buy.

I loved reading this book cos I’m nosy and found this a fascinating insight into a very different man to the one on the repair shop.
I didn’t like the swearing throughout the book and I know many older people would be shocked. But I did find this book a page turner and can’t wait to read the next one.
I’m glad many people have had their lives turned around because of Jay and his work in the Community, we all should be challenged by that and see our own potential for helping others.

I must be honest and say that I thought this would just be a light summer celeb memoir. Couldn’t be more wrong. This is a fascinating book, searingly honest, about a life so full of ups and downs it’s like a rollercoaster.
Jay Blades deserves all the good fortune he now has as he has worked his way for it. He has , admittedly, done some decidedly dodgy things in the past but he hasn’t tried to hide them. As he is the first to say, he has been surrounded by a warmth and kindness when he’s really needed it.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book, it is a good read and I recommend it

Watched a program where King Charles stated he wanted craft centres for training young people to be stone masons, woodcarvers, blacksmiths and many dying trades across the whole of the UK.
King Charles and Jay Blades, now that sounds like an amazing team.

It was a great find on Kindle Unlimited. My Dad is a big fan of The Repair Shop, so I had to read this. It was honest, and interesting.
