If a lawyer needs this book, he is in a sorry state. This book is suitable at best to a 16-year old with dreams of becoming a lawyer. Some of the sentences used for exercise purposes are poorly written. For example, we are asked to choose the correct verb from (a) hold (b) held (c) holds to fill in the blank in: In the case of [case name] …. that [the name of statute] applies to any [legal entity] that is engaged in [specific activity]. It is obvious that the word ‘In’ at the start of the sentence is inappropriate. Secondly, why leave out the subject in all the square brackets. Would it not be better to write: ‘The case of Jones v Williams …that the Unfair Contract Terms Act applies to any government ministry that is engaged in employing Minors’? Even the book Title is badly phrased.
