I stumbled on this book completely by accident whist searching for another cookery book. I like watching the Master Chef professionals series on the television so I decided to purchase the book. The book is divided into 2 main sections. The first, covers modern classic recipes from starters through to deserts and cakes with some pictures. The Master Chef recipes are all accompanied with a full colour picture of the finished dish.
The second section is entitled Master Chef know how which covers kitchen implements, step by step illustrations on how to bone fish, preparing crustaceans and jointing a chicken to name but a few It then moves on to different ingredients and their flavour parings useful for those budding cooks that want to create their own dishes or add your own twist to an existing recipe.
The difference between this and the earlier edition is MINIMALl. The 2011 bible boasts 100 CLASSIC RECIPES and less of the recipes from the Masterchef series than the current 2017 book, so both editions have the same total number of pages.
A lovely book that would be an asset to anyone’s kitchen and have bought a further 2 copies as presents for friends who both went into raptures over it!!

This book is great,it teaches you every single trick in the kitchen, describes all ingredients (meat, fish , veg, seeds, fruits and so on), give the complete step by step (in pictures) of how, where and when to use an ingredient, season calendar, temperatures, weight conversions, volume measurements … and the list go on and on, great for beginners as well as someone who already knows how to cook, this is a fantastic reference book and on the top of all the above it also contains a good number of recipes. I cannot fault this book, I highly recommend it. I liked it so much that I got a second one and gave it to my sister for Christmas, I could see she was not very impressed by getting a recipe book , but it was lovely to see the changes on her face as she started looking through the pages, realizing that this is a great tool in any kitchen.

As a basic, go-to for classic dishes, this is excellent. It is sturdily bound and has excellent pictures. There is a note with each recipe suggesting variations, which is useful. There is a section giving information about different foods and cooking methods. For a cook just starting out, this is an ideal reference book. Once they have mastered the skills in this book, they will be ready to add their own imaginative ideas to their cooking, knowing they have all the techniques they need to move onwards and upwards.
My only grouse is that it is a very thick, heavy book and will not stay open on the worktop. If it had a more economical layout and a spiral binding, I would love it much more!

A great collection of techniques and classical recipes. Everything tried so far has worked very well.

I really like the MasterChef Kitchen Bible. It’s a good all-round, general cookery book with some great tips and recipes. Some other reviewers have complained that the recipes are too basic. Whilst it’s true that most people can probably cook quiche, chips and flapjacks already, there are lots of other (more complex) recipes that are worth exploring. For example, about 90 pages are dedicated to recipes from MasterChef participants from the TV show. Many of these are fine dining and far from simple. In total, approximately half of the book (the first 243 pages) is dedicated to recipes. The other half contains ‘know-how’ including information on kitchen tools, cooking methods and ingredients. Within this section there is guidance on making stocks, pasta, mayonnaise, veloute sauces, pastries etc…

I love this book, but I would actually like to praise the seller/distributor in this review, CBS Distribution Ltd: they accidentally sent me two copies and, when I contacted them to arrange a return, generously allowed me to keep the second copy. Both books arrived immaculately packaged and in pristine condition. Their customer service is second to none: prompt and respectful. Thank you.

Bought as birthday present for 25 year old son who’s just getting into cooking. Very informative on cooking know how (although I’m either missing something or there are basic errors, 1tsp = 90ml, 2tsp 100ml?) but I suspect there’s a lot in it that he won’t find useful. That, however, is down to him as he doesn’t eat fish and lives in France where a number of things in the recipes are not readily available.
I suspect though, that after I have another good look at it before I give it to him, I will probably buy for myself.
Four stars as corner of book was damaged
