Anthony kinda rambles a lot. I first listened to his podcasts and YouTube videos before buying this book and all seemed quite mysterious as he always mentioned to get his books (rather than getting to the details in a podcast). But what’s the point really? Eating well and a tad bit more specific than that.
He seems cute, he is funny, sarcastic in a childish way. And (shockingly?) many celebs are on his side.
Reading his book is different, his writing is much more coherent than his speaking. It seems like his talks are more like theatrical performance to capture the seekers’ attention. Typical American style and a bit over the top. The book is filled with information though. I can imagine he must be pretty fed up by now by being a constant target to those who like to have the science behind. Yes, there is no current scientific research here. You either get over it or not. You either try it or not.
I am open minded.
When reading the book… in a way it’s like being mildly brainwashed and/or creating a deep close intimate connection to your liver. Reconnecting, hypnotising.
First half of the book was informative but somehow repetitive at times. Informative but in a way I can see research orientated people would dig into every sentence as he often mentions “wasn’t discovered by the science yet”. But I am ok with that. I myself had various experiences which can’t be explained by the science. So by the average standards, yes controversial. But as we all know science was wrong in the past, stuff gets discovered all the time and tbh I don’t really care what side I am standing on when it’s helping me.
There are so so many success stories! Whatever it is he shares it is healing many who couldn’t be healed in the past. Perhaps those with incurable dis-eases are the strongest mentally yet to stick to the healthy eating protocols because they finally realise their health is in their hands and there isn’t anything else to try than diet. For this Anthony deserves a medal because he empowers ill and lost people.
He has an amazing gift to really make people eat more fruits and veggies! Miracle. It’s his charm, the way he dishes out the info and obviously the actual fact the natural food is healing. I am impressed by how many people suddenly follow unprocessed vegan diet (and heal). I always knew that. I was playing with raw food diet/juicing for years on and off (swapped with the overly processed comforting food at times).
He comes across as very understanding, he creates a close bond with the most desperate ones as he tunes into them. He often says: I know how you feel, I really do. And “we” will do it together.
I don’t really mind where the information comes from so whether it’s a spirit or someone having healing abilities I embrace it all.
I like to be inspired and many things did harmonise well with me and the book out few bits for me together.
I have done the liver flushes in the past following A. Moritz books (which Anthony is against) and oddly I always felt innately guilty for what harsh I am doing to my liver. I had an awareness that my liver, gallbladder feels tender, overloaded and doesn’t always work as it should. My childhood and teenage years diet were just sugar and fat. Constant heartburns, indigestions (especially if I stray to a processed food for a while) and there I go downing half a glass of olive oil with grapefruit juice as an adult. Going through an extreme discomfort after when my body was trying to deal with it. Betraying my liver?
As many who are opposed to the liver flush procedure he says the “stones” are just coagulated olive oil. Ok. I agree somewhat but between those there were actually weird different “stones” and things like perhaps some parasites flushed out, too. Is it worth to do liver flush, though? Everyone decides for themselves. But yes, probably a bit too intense to clean already quite weakened liver this way, so I am now agreeing with him and I became a “team celery juice” for a while and I am pretty sure with his protocols I had rejuvenated my liver last year… Did I muster my willpower and sticked to it for long enough? That’s another story. Plus I have always been juicing before so switching to only celery didn’t give me such an wonderful striking results like to those who never ate quite well or had visible symptoms (eczema etc.)
It’s just about being persistent and determined but the most desperate ones who tried all and failed through the doctors and medication, those will do anything and this is everything. Changing the lifestyle for eating well and mindfully, accordingly to your health issues.
I also agree on being careful with fats when your liver isn’t in perfect condition you don’t want to be eating fatty diet. After reading the book I actually started to be even more vigilant and double checking the shell life of the nuts and oils I have been using as I am more and more aware this really adds up to the damage. Even a slightly rancid fat is a poison for a weak liver.
I have read the heavy book in just a few days (last January 2019) and I am currently thinking about getting some of his other books. If for nothing else than for the “brainwashing effect” haha to set myself on a healing food path again! Because it does saturate your brain indeed and then you are more likely to make the needed changes which harmonise with you.
I always read the negative comments as well as positive and I read through some medical sides, too. But reading about how they attacked Anthony and beat him down with the research actually made me like Anthony a bit more. Strange path he is on and I am happy to buy his books and even use his affiliate links on his website.
I support many more other companies and people by buying their stuff who are not thorns in the eyes. So yes, why not him, too! (he is often blamed for making money on it all, but isn’t everyone making money on everything nowadays anyway?!?). It’s not like I am paying him thousands! I just bough a book and maybe another. And what’s gonna happen people will actually be supporting organic farmers, and isn’t that what we should be all aiming for?

The bottom line here is that pretty much all major problems are caused by pathogens of some kind, hence detoxing the body is the ultimate cure all. I actually agree with the pathogen theory, and came to that conclusion myself before coming across this book.
You are then pressured to go on a super strict vegetarian type diet. And eat raw. Loads of raw. Interestingly, Chinese and Ayuverdic herbal systems have been fixing major health problems for centuries and they are against this kind of raw, no animal products way of living. Raw foods are difficult to digest. Cold foods stress the digestive system, which needs warmth to work. So this author is really off track with some of his advice. But the part where he really lost me was with his portion sizes. They are abusively huge. He has a liver rescue salad for which he has you pile up like 10 cups of fruit and veg (6 of which are leaves) and calls it 1 to 2 portions. I’ve read honest reviews from people doing his cleanse (which isn’t as unique as he claims), who talked about how they strained to consume the truckloads of food he was telling them to eat and drink. Instead of respecting their bodies, they stuffed it all in thinking it was the only way to heal. Listen to your body, people. If it’s telling you to stop, stop. I find it absurd that this author goes on and on about the intelligence of the body only to pass out such terrible advice. I had another book by this author in which he was trying to derive spiritual lessons from the cucumber and the radish. That went in the bin. I only got this one bc I was panicking over hubby’s fatty liver diagnosis and most books on the subject looked really bad. I’m just going to use this book for ideas about what veg and fruit to emphasize. My many herbal books are great for plants, but tend to lack detailed discussions of the medicinal actions of regular produce, which is this author’s one strongpoint (when he’s not just making stuff up). I will not be giving up wholesome, nutritious foods like beef, milk, and butter. Moderation is the key. Elimination isn’t always the glorious thing people make it out to be. Sugar is not the embodiment of evil. I encourage people to be discerning. Don’t just believe a man bc he claims to be Divinely inspired. That claim is older than the hills and rarely accurate. Also, be aware that moral guilt has a negative impact on your health, so letting yourself get cowed into a position where you feel guilty and sinful for every mouthful of non perfect food is going to leave you feeling stressed and depressed, which will do nothing good for your health. That’s the kind of effect authors like this have on people, when they go on and on about how imperfect everything is while offering totally unrealistic solutions which are only remotely possible for wealthy people who happen to live in regions where organic food is available in mass quantities. I would not recommend this book. Bear in mind that I’m not impressed by fame, followers, and the social connections that this author flaunts. I really think about the quality of the advice that’s being dispensed, and in this case, the quality just isn’t there.
