I am a big fan of these “For Dummies” books, having reviewed a few of them now. They are always professionally written, extremely informative and have a good mix of text and imagery. Having a wife who manages a global database team, I handed this one over to her to review.
The book comes with a glossy, semi-hardback cover and covers the following areas:

This is a good companion for Medical students and Healthcare professions and give a good overview of Medical Pharmacology. Each subject is covered over two-pages, with visuals and information on one page and drugs on the other. Everything is professionally written and laid out. There is also further information available online, that includes flashcards, cases, list of core drugs, etc.
At £29.99, I do think it is a little bit expensive for what it is.
I hope you found this review & photos interesting, informative and useful.

This book will be of interest primarily to doctors, pharmacists and nurse prescribers, but it also has a potential use for enquiring and scientifically literate patients wanting to research their own medication and options. Obviously I’m not suggesting anyone unqualified attempts to self diagnose – it’s more a case of being informed about the effects and implications of the prescription you’ve received.
I shan’t waste space here by copying the contents list as you can view that and more, for yourself, by using the excellent ‘Look inside’ feature. The book is very comprehensive and groups drugs by function, giving a background and recap to conditions and the mechanism of the drugs. There’s also a list of adverse drug reactions, an abbreviations reminder and some useful case studies. All this is accompanied by good illustrations to aid learning.
Not being medically qualified myself I cannot judge the value of this book to those who are, but speaking as an interested layman and patient, I can certainly attest to the usefulness to anyone in a similar position to myself. I do have friends and family members who are practicing doctors and who use this book though, so the fact that they do would suggest an endorsement of its usefulness.
As a specialised publication with a limited readership and print run it will naturally be more expensive than a mass market book, but at around thirty pounds it’s cheaper than many medical texts! Five stars from me.
