“A tail-waggingly fun read. You’re in for a doggie treat.” – Mo O’Hara

Michael’s dream is to go from being an unknown pup to a Hollywoof sensation and global su-paw-star. But becoming famous is no walkies in the park… How long will it take Michael’s fellow inhabitants of Snuffles-by-Sea to recognise his amazing talent? And with the help of his trusty sidekick, Stanley Big Dog, what can possibly go wrong?

“This is glorious! A hilarious tale about following your dreams no matter what.” – Lee Newbery

“Hilarious and heartwarming. Michael’s journey to su-paw-stardom is an inspiring reminder to go after your dreams, get up when you fall, and never let a peanut-balancing chocolate Labrador steal the show.”- Hannah Moffatt

“A very punny tail about Michael, an ambitious sausage dog with stars in his eyes.” – Karen Owen

Bought on the recommendation of Blue Peter and the launch of their book club our 6 year old daughter read it in a day. She thoroughly enjoyed it. Although she is a very good reader, she does not always get drawn to read books to the end, often getting bored and stopping partway through.

This is a fantastic book, and our daughter thoroughly enjoyed reading it – both together with us and then again on her own. The puns are great and pretty much guaranteed to put a huge smile on your face. Meanwhile, the overall message running throughout is gloriously positive – and helps encourage readers to keep on believing in their dreams and to never ever give up. Highly recommended!

Absolutely adored this debut from the very funny Terrie Chilvers, with brilliant illustrations by Tim Budgen. Children will adore sausage-dog Michael’s endearingly inflated sense of his own importance, and the many situations when he is brought down to earth with a bump. Lovely doggy observations throughout and an important message about being true to yourself and following your dreams. Highly recommend as a read-aloud story or independent read for 7+ and I can’t wait for more – every sausage dog needs a series!

I bought this book for my niece and when I opened it and read the first line I just read on! It’s so brilliantly funny and well observed. It made me laugh out loud a few times with the little doggy insights and brilliant puns. I loved it so much I bought 5 copies for all the young people in my life. It’s refreshing to read a book for children this age that doesn’t infantilize them but instead assumes they’ll get the jokes. And a book that’s can also be enjoyed by adults and even small long dogs that are not sausage dogs (see image attached). Can’t wait to read more of Michael’s tails! (pun intended).

We loved this! Michael the super confident sausage dog is very funny, and the book is packed with brilliant characters – Susan the peanut-balancing scene-stealing Chocolate Labrador (see picture) and Stanley Big Dog are favourites. Love the illustrations, too. Fast-paced and genuinely hard to put down, we will be recommending this one to friends.

Both myself and my daughter have loved reading about Michael – a great story with lovable characters. As a someone hugely into dogs, my daughter immediately dived in and read through the first 3 chapters before i’d even had a chance to sit down with her at bedtime. On occasion, i can hear her giggling in her room, and i know it’s because she’s tucking in to the next chapter (when she should be asleep 🙂 ). I’d certainly recommend this book, and we’re looking forward to the next one!
