I found this book in a charity shop and was really excited. The Millennium Falcon vies with Firefly’s Serenity for being my favourite spacecraft ever. Unfortunately, this Haynes book is simply filled with pictures of different craft and such simplistic details of the Millennium Falcon I couldn’t see the point in it. Very disappointed!

“She may not look like much … but she’s got it where it counts.” (quote by Han Solo), and the same to true of this book. I refer of course to the Haynes volume Millennium Falcon: Modified YT-1300 Corellian Freighter – Owner’s Workshop Manual. An official Star Wars product, drawing on the numerous skills of author Ryder Windham, and lavishly illustrated by Chris Reiff and Chris Trevas, this 125 page technical manual is for the most part pleasing and offers much on what is probably the galaxies most famous flying junkyard. Who among us does not know the Falcon, or the exploits of Captain Solo and his Wookiee first mate – but can we say the same of his transport, the Millennium Falcon? The book not only introduces us to some of the Falcon’s background, but it attempts to explain her ‘stock light’ status and some of her design ancestry. Certain details have been taken from canon sources, including the novel entitled “Millennium Falcon”, the West End Games series of galaxy guides, various commentaries and other stories as well as the movies in which she made appearances – but it is the technical diagrams which drew me to this volume and for the most part I was not disappointed.

Rather surprisingly the authors choose to include “toys” which were offered with certain large toy versions of the Falcon as supplemental vehicles in their book, most notably the F-LER (which I have never heard of and I am a collector) and the non-canon “Mini-Fighter” which made its debut with the “new millennium falcon” toy. The book includes some nicely rendered computer generated images of the Falcon in profile, showing considerable surface detail, a series of monochrome line-drawings of her interiors both in isometric and flat-plan formats. There is a section detailing the layout of the various instrument panels and functions found in the cockpit; some pages on how Solo made excellent use of the Falcons maneuverability at the Battle of Yavin, the Battle of Hoth (and with Calrissian in command) the Battle of Endor. The vessels remarkable and souped-up propulsion system, weapons and sensors are also discussed, as are other aspects of her operation and design. In fact, in closing my only real regret is that the producers of this book did not carry on detailing everything that there is to know about the Falcon – but such a volume would have been many centimeters thick. I also recommend you look for another book by these fine authors and artists – and this is Star Wars: Millennium Falcon YT-1300 – A 3-D Owner’s Guide – also available from Amazon – you will not be disappointed, I guarantee it!

Had a few quid left over from some vouchers and this was in my price range so bought it. The type of book you look through once then put it on your book shelf for a bit of fun and a talking point.

I am a Canadian living in the US of A. I usually use Amazon.com for the US, but I often pop over to Amazon.Fr and Amazon. UK as they occasionally have products I cannot get through Amazon US. (Well, the French is because I am French Canadian and I buy French books through them) As for the UK, like this great book from Haynes on the Millennium Falcon, it was not available through the US Amazon. When I went over to look at what they had in the UK site, I was flumoxed by all these new Haynes titles that just are not released or heard of here. Well, I was surprised and happy to see the Millennium Falcon done as a Haynes book as I knew that, unlike trying to cover multiple vehicles like the Trek book, this was at least going to be more in depth. I love the writing style, the speculation about systems and how they work, the illustrations and the fact that the technobabble didn’t go much further than the basics. It’s not real, so why write 2-3 pages of indepth “imagined” physics/engineering. Boring. I love tech, but put stories, anecdotes and personality mixed with it, you get a much more informative technical book (for Sci-Fi). I really like the rundown on the history of the company that builds the Freighter and all the different variations and lineage. Overall a great book, fun read and great choice. I would love to see this treatment done to other individual Star Wars or Star Trek ships. As well as any other cool things even from the Gerry Anderson Universe. We need a book like this that covers the Delta Flyer alone…or the OS Enterprise by itself. Haynes is definitely at it’s best when it covers one object at a time. At least for us the reader as we get more info of that particular piece of engineering. In the real world, I hope they do a “Virginia” or “Vanguard” class sub, the B-2 bomber, maybe the “Challenger 2” Tank or the “M1A2 Abrahms”, etc, etc. You see my drift. In the fantasy world, well there’s a plethora there too. Out of all the Star Wars ships though, I think the Millennium Falcon was truly the best first choice and most interesting to me. There is just so much more personal history behind the Falcon that none of the other ships really have. (PS: No Slave 1, please). In the Trek world, it would be great to see Kirks Enterprises, meaning two books, one on the OS from the sixties and the Refit from TMP. In the Haynes style wouldn’t it be amazing, especially covering the recreation decks, officers lounge, Shuttle bay, the garden lounge, etc. Imagine one on the fictional Space cruiser Yamato? Or even the real Yamato. I hope they continue with new titles and I truly hope they sell well enough for that to happen. I know there hard work, but they are worth it as a reader

I highly recommend the title. These guys did a great job and I love it. I have it with me right now at work and will be taking it with me for lunch. Go figure. Buy it, love it!

Thanks Haynes and all your writers and illustrators. Absolutely great work for what I know is not the true value of there work. The authors and illustrators loved what they were working on, so you will get people who care usually.

This is a book about the Falcon, apparently, the fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy. Possibly one of the most thought about and wanted spaceship from the Star Wars universe, along with an X-Wing of course. Being able to have this reference material is going to enhance the Bandai 1-144 scale version I have yet to build. Not your typical Haynes manual.
