I suffer from a chronic illness and have read many self-help books. Whilst I do not always accept the theories and advice in this book, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The author is American so the advice is not always applicable to a British reader. However, the best thing I like about this book is that you get a sense that the author really has a desire to help you and genuinely believes that she is offering you the best advice and help she can. There is plenty of free on-line advice, articles and forums to follow up the book so the author gently prods and nudges you to keep trying. I never expected the book to completely cure me and I really do not know how to implement any of the ideas but I would recommend this book just because it is interesting.

Lisa Rankin definitely speaks her mind through this book. She reveals how we are the masters of our minds and bodies. We know ourselves better than doctors think they know. The six steps presented are clear and easy to follow. The true medecine is within us, just RELAX

A well written and researched book by a medical practitioner who used to be solely focused on a paternalistic medical, approach to caring for the ‘physical’ body. Her enlightenment is clear to see in this book and she gives clear signposts of how we might all achieve self-healing as she did, if we start to look at our bodies from a different perspective. Afterall, the energy is within us to do so if we wish. However, some may not have the financial resources required to access all the services she recommends as they might not be accessible or available on the NHS.

If you sat down with a member of the medical profession and said I am ill but am not looking for the quick prescription route to your door out; I have an alternative course of action in mind.
I have had cause to discuss my health recently with medical personnel and whilst they always come across as listening, there is constraints they adhere to that are governed by the code of ethics etc. I have not known any doctor that would endorse any alternative therapy. They simply smile and suggest that is “interesting” or I would be cautious of perhaps using this or that without it being approved. That said this does not detract from the knowledge within. It must be left up to the reader as to whether the methodology outlined meets their expectations. This book didn’t do that for me but that might be down to what I was seeking as much as what was covered within the book. I will recommend this book in spite of my slightly disappointed view of it.

I read this book because I saw a video of Lissa on Katie’s blog (conqueringfearspiritually.com). I thought Lissa was on to something and being in the middle of finding out the mystery what is wrong with me, I thought I would give it a read. I’m glad I did and it’s been a while since I finished a book that fast!
Lissa has done a large amount of research and with facts and examples and even personal experiences, this gives you a great insight in the possibility to help you heal yourself. She provides you with tools and guidelines how to help you on your way through your journey.
A very interesting read whether you already are sick or want to prevent becoming sick. Will definitely recommend it.

There is nothing dull about this book. It shows how your mind can have a beneficial affect on how your body feels. The more I got into it the more I began to understand how your sate of mind can affect how you feel. Putting some of the ideas in practice, the day after I felt calmer and less stressed. Great little read.
