I ordered this to see what all the fuss about Minecraft is as my daughters started asking me about it.

Having seen what some people have created is truly amazing and this book really shows off in very good detail and high quality pictures.

I’ve just downloaded Minecraft onto my girls Fire tablets now they’ve finished school so they can start exploring and learn how to get started. Then they can show me! 🙂

I’m sure this book will be very inspiring to them and other beginners to see what can be created in time.

This hardback book is very good in quality physically and the pictures are really amazing! There is also plenty of reading about how things were created and what they are about. This will be great to read with my girls when they start getting into it more. I will have a go too and will keep looking back at this great book. 5 stars for nearly 200 pages of very high quality content!

The media could not be loaded.

I don’t really understand Minecraft, but that doesn’t really matter.

For the uninitiated Minecraft is a sort of digital Lego (sorry Minecraft aficionados, I know it’s way more than that but I’m trying to keep it simple).

If you’re into Minecraft this is a must have book. I have to emphasise that this isn’t a ‘this is HOW I did it’ book more a ‘this is WHY I did it’ book. The illustrations are rich, colourful and a good size – no teeny tiny pictures here! The land and city scapes illustrated here are breathtaking – I don’t think I could ever conjure something like this out of my head and many do indeed resemble actual places which gives a point of reference.

For those not into Minecraft it is fascinating to have a peek inside the imagination of others, and for artists or illustrators looking for inspiration then look no further.

This is a solid, properly sized book (over A4) and is produced by Mojang and is an official Minecraft publication – no lookalikes here.

If you know a Minecrafter (are they called that?) they would probably be delighted to receive this as a gift.

Everyone loves Minecraft. Kids and Adults alike. Although there are tons of YouTube videos showcasing builds, being able to see that the author of this book took the time to showcase some very impressive builds, along with discussions from the builders is fantastic.

I’m no builder. I tend to download modpacks that allow me to automate various things, then maybe build something cool around it.
There are some seriously creative and talented individuals out there. Some of their work shown in this book will keep whoever reads this, entertained for hours.

    • A cool little collectors item, that’s presented very well.
    • Hardcover
    • Very high quality print of text and images.
    • Each build / chapter focuses on several aspects from a single build.
    • There are even tips for those wanting to create their own

    Great little Christmas filler

My step son loves this! He’s spent ages looking through all the different builds and commenting on how “awesome” they are. Great product for any Minecraft fan!!

This is a fairly hefty tome – A4 in size and about 190 pages. Each of the 16 builds gets around 10-12 pages of coverage which is typically a handful of full page, zoomed out photos attempting to encompass the vast scale of these epic builds plus some detail images inset, and a fair amount of text (about one full A4 page of small typeface) woven throughout.

This covers the concept of each build plus some description of the way it was built, some insights into what various details are, and the builder’s history in the Minecraft space. Much of this is based on interview quotes from the builders themselves, and greatly benefits from that.

There’s not enough detail here for someone wanting to reproduce these huge, complex builds – the images are only really sufficient for you to marvel at their vast scope and complexity. These are builds which often took well over a year to complete – they should be seen as inspirational rather than step-by-step guides on how to replicate them.

Some builds – like The Imperial City – are hyper-realistic, collecting together analogues of architectural construction styles from around the real world. Others, like Aqua Princess are flights of dreamscape fantasy, and demonstrate what an artist can achieve when working in the realm of impressionism within the blocky limits of Minecraft. I love how some of these models seem to ignore the north-south-east-west constraints most Minecraft builders limit themselves to, creating winding lanes and buildings that don’t conform to the usual 4 flat walls concept. Quite something!

Other builds fall somewhere in between, creating gorgeous, idealised landscapes or cityscapes of breath-taking complexity that cover the eras from medieval Europe through contemporary cities complete with skyscrapers and multi-lane roadways, and on to futuristic renderings of spacecraft and terrestrial floating cities.

It’s an incredible book, and if you want to see some of the best visual builds of all time, this selection must surely be hard to beat. For the hardback book version, the price must surely be considered quite reasonable. The only thing that would be better is to be given free rein to roam through these builds in real time. That would be incredible!

The book is quite large with plenty of ideas and tips to make some huge and impressive Minecraft builds. It is nicely illustrated too. If nothing else it demonstrates the vast range of builds possible. Enjoyable.

Ordered this for my daughter as she is obsessed with Minecraft. She loves looking through this book and making mini versions or buildings with the same themes. The book has a lovely hardcover and would have been a great gift although it was slightly dented on the corner. I do think this was down to the way it was packaged and delivered though.
