£3.10

He watches. When will he touch?

My life has been filled with nothing but pain. My cavern was a way to escape…

Until I saw those strange yellow eyes.

He doesn’t speak. Doesn’t move. I don’t even know if he’s real, until I see more than his eyes.

That’s when I realize my predator is a fabled monster.

The terror is paralyzing. I can’t move, can’t scream, can’t get away.

He’d never let me, anyway.

He’s bent me until I’m broken, and now, I’m nothing more than his pet. He twists my body to feed his desires, ensuring I’ll never be able to escape. And the truth?

I don’t want to anymore.

This book follows Penny and Laiken. Penny is a human slave who works in the worst conditions for very little, in a world where humans are nothing, and where they are beaten and sneered at by dark elves, but Penny is strong and resilient.
Laiken is our mysterious monster who likes to stay below the surface, only surfacing to eat, usual those who are out to hunt him. But then he sees Penny and he has to have her, at first as a prize but then he has a real need for her!

Don’t miss out on this exciting read, and don’t worry, you dont have to have read the other books in this series.

Penny is a human slave to the vicious dark elves who have left plenty of their marks on her flesh.
Her only reprieve seems to be the time she spends in a hidden cavern that contains a monster from the depths of the sea.
Laiken is the only one of his kind with tentacles and the strength to be a predator to everything in his path.
He doesn’t want to eat this little human who keeps him company and while this confuses him, it also stirs other feelings which he hasn’t ever felt.
She must be his and he will have her as his treasure even though she belongs to the elves.
Penny will begin to develop feelings herself towards this monster and a myriad of emotions will flood her just as the water does.

I love this series that takes a lone monster of strange origins and bloodthirsty instinct making them discover the heart they’ve never used for more than living.
Laiken is obsessed with the human he spies who is different from his usual meals and yet he has an intense feeling that means he doesn’t wish to harm her.
I adored the back and forth between the two main characters who may fight but who come to understand each other intimately.
I loved everything about this underwater world and the descriptions are mind blowing which I obviously have come to expect from these authors.
It would be a shame to miss out on such a thought provoking set of books that manage to crack the darkest of hearts and stroke the reader’s delight.

Monster’s Pet is within the Protheka universe by Celeste King – I haven’t read all of her previous books within this world and it didn’t hinder my experience of this book and did not add any confusion, so if you haven’t read anything by this author to date, it would be quite easy to get into this without having to go through her catalogue first.

This book surrounds Penny and Laiken – Penny is an enslaved human who is working for basic rations and the treatment of humans in this world is extremely lacking, they are often beaten and ridiculed by the dark elves, within the first chapter it is clear what the FMC has to endure but no matter her circumstances, she does not break and she manages to stay strong even in the worst situations. I really enjoyed her character and her development throughout her journey.

Laiken is the monster within this story and I was fascinated by him from the get go, and his character also develops very well during the story. He prefers to be underneath the water well away from the elves and humans, but he does venture to the surface occasionally and will eat those that venture in boats to hunt.

Upon his first sight of Penny he is instantly obsessed, in the beginning he simply wants her as a trophy and this does morph into a need for her rather than her just being an object that he can cherish and the development to this change in his psyche was one of my favourite aspects of this story.
