My little one is learning piano and these theory books are perfectly pitched for children who are beginning to learn music theory. Recommended by the piano teacher, my child has progressed through book 1 and is moving onto book 2. The books are bright, cheerful and present music theory in an easy to follow manner. I’ve even been using them to brush up on my extremely rusty music theory too!

I bought this book as a follow-up to Book 1 in the series. My 5 year old pupil worked through Book 1 with great enthusiasm and is eagerly counting the pages until she can begin Book 3!! This book really appeals to young learners as it is in colour throughout but the pages are not crammed with information like some others I have used in the past. My student, now 6 years old particularly enjoys using the stickers that come with the book to indicate the correct answers and the colouring in. As this book is a continuation to Book 1, it covers the Treble Clef notes A, B and C and E, D and F in the Bass Clef. My pupil is currently working through the pages on the dotted minim that introduces another aspect to note values and worth and she has had no problems with the concept of the ‘dot’. The book also covers the position of stems on notes, bar lines, 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4, rests, quavers, sharps, flats, and naturals. It sounds like an awful lot but is no more than I would expect for a pupil who is now into her second year of learning the piano. How long it takes must depend on the student’s rate of learning but also complement what is being learned in the practically. I haven’t yet purchased the remaining two books in the series but I am sure they will lead in nicely to the grade 1 piano syllabus.

My 5 year old loved book 1 and is equally looking forward to this book. They break down learning music theory which is perfect for younger learners.
