Good book recommended by the teacher.

I love this series. For anyone under the age of about 9, I start them on these books instead of Grade 1 theory. They build up very gradually over four books to Grade 1 standard, with this first book being accessible from the very first music lessons. The middle is full of stickers to add to various pages and there are lots of fun activities with plenty of colouring. My pupils always beg to do this book each lesson. Better than others I have tried for this age group. I’ve used it very successfully from ages 5 – 8 ish. But to be honest,if I had to learn theory from scratch I’d be happy to work it myself!

Very VERY basic, but then I guess that’s what I would expect for a beginner book. My son isn’t quite old enough for it yet, but once he gets into learning piano I’m sure it’ll be a hit.

It’s thorough, but my 6yo son didn’t find it stretching or interesting enough. It feels a bit pink and girl-orientated, and there’s a lot of space and pictures on each page with not much to do. He likes tasks and challenges rather than stickers and pictures, and this didn’t engage him very much. It also assumes the child is starting on the piano, which he isn’t. That said, he does know the notes on the keyboard, and still found it a bit too slow-moving. He’s responded better to the Chester Music Puzzles, which are black and white but more like little tests where he can push himself to get it right.

Really nice and clear images. The stickers are also fun.

Great book for children just starting piano. It is a fun way to get them to start to learn the notes and note value.
