I can’t really complain, as this is advertised as a basic kids’ starter book. However, it really is elementary, using only four strings. My 9-year old, five lessons into learning the instrument in a school club, was already beyond it, so it’s a good job I bought a more grown-up manual at the same time. However, if you are buying a guitar as a present for a child and want to put something helpful with it, this is probably the book for you. We’ll keep it for the younger child.

Lovely 3/4 size guitar. Bought this for our grandaughter for Christmas. She loves it, great learning guitar. Perfect size

Luckily my dad was there to show me how the diagrams of where you put your fingers work so I could explain to my 8 year old. He has not yet taken to trying to go on and learn a different chord out of it himself, but the guitar is just for fun so I think the book is a good starting point.

Interesting book there are lots of activities in the book for children to do which will teach them about the guitar in a fun way. There are no music sheets to play tunes but as I say its a very first book and looks the biz. It does have chords to play songs with in there it does not look like traditional music sheets just more of an activity book in appearance.

Lots of advice on how to hold the guitar and what parts are called.

My 9 year old really enjoyed this and managed to teach himself chords without any adult guidance, just using the book.

For just 4/5 pages of instructions it was way overpriced

This book has been brilliant in explaining guitar basics to this musically inept adult. I chose a children’s book as I really did need the very obvious pointing out to me – my brain is just not wired to be musical! It has been great and I am now playing 4 chords with some fluidity. My only criticism is that it is so short. I’d like it to go beyond 4 chords with some more songs. I’m glad I only paid for the Kindle edition as I feel the paperback would have been overpriced for such a short book. More please!
