I have a few of this author’s books, which are all excellent but I LOVED this one. This is fantastic for teaching children spoken and formal Cantonese. It’s a word dictionary book with either a photo or illustration for each word. My two-year-old loves it so much (particularly the animal and fruit sections). It is a well thought-out book with chapters on all the essentials and more. The Chinese is in a classic font, which I prefer.
I like that it includes large numbers (up to 100 and beyond), and how to tell the time e.g. 5 minutes past the hour, as this type of content is useful for older kids (I didn’t know some of the larger numbers even). My favourite is the family tree and names for different relatives. You can scan the QR code to access a website, where all the vocab has been recorded too. It’s reasonably priced too as books like this in HK/Taiwan are much more expensive. Highly recommend! I hope she will do more phrase books or story books soon…

Brilliant book! Easy to read and understand, a great first book for kids and adults alike. Got it for my son who is starting to show interest in reading. My wife also can learn Cantonese whilst teaching him.

My LO loves the great illustrations. They are a great visual cue for him. The categories make it really easy to focus on one topic at a time. I love the written Chinese and the jyutping so that we can both learn to read Chinese together.

This covers so much vocabulary and my daughter loves it. I learnt new phrases too! The pictures are fab too! Can tell a lot of thought has gone into this. Happy with this.

The book is amazing! There isn’t many books with jyutping so that’s a huge plus and it’s for kids! I love that is so colourful and covers so many topics! I highly recommend it

Another fabulous addition to the series of cantonese learning books. This one is in a larger format which i particularly like for my daughter. She loves pointing to the pictures and listening to the cantonese. This is a great teaching aid. There is an extensive range of topics covered in this first vocab book; I especially like the ‘Relatives’ section which lists all the complicated names of different chinese relatives in a simple pictorial family tree format – it helped to teach me as well as my daughter! Would highly recommend this book for teaching your children cantonese in a fun way.

Excellent book for little ones learning Cantonese
The book works well for both my 2 year old and my 7 year old – a good range of vocabularies for each topic and my older one can use what he knows and the Jyupin to try pronouncing words he never seen or learnt before. Made it easy for him to learn and practice by himself. I also like the book that it gives more than one translation into Cantonese for some vocabularies.
It is probably one of the rare children Cantonese book that has English, Chinese and Jyupin.
Would love to have next level of the book!
