My Name is Jackson: Letters from a rescue dog

£8.50

Based around true events, “My Name is Jackson” tells the story of a skinny, abused and neglected hunting dog who finds himself transported from a rusty tin shack in the hills of Cyprus to the leafy lanes of rural Oxfordshire. Through his letters to his new friend Milo, Jackson shares his experiences, telling of the challenges he faces, the friends he makes, and the lessons he learns as he discovers what the world offers, and all he has to give back.

Jackson came to the UK in March 2021 and after receiving a welcome gift from Milo the Labradoodle on the day of his arrival, he decided to do what any well-brought-up dog would do, wrote a thank you letter and posted it on his Facebook page – Jackson Found My Forever Home. This quickly became a weekly event, and Jackson gathered hundreds of online friends who awaited the Sunday updates he unfailingly wrote for over a year. This collection of those letters is a tribute to Jackson and to the tireless work done by the volunteers in Cyprus and in the UK to help these wonderful dogs.

Profits from the sale of this book will go to Rehoming Cyprus Pointers (Registered Charity No 1199776) who rescued and rehabilitated Jackson, before finding him his new home in the UK. See www.rehomingcypruspointers.co.uk for details.

What a beautifully written collection of letters from a dog’s point of view. I felt like I knew Jackson so well and he had a wonderful, but sadly short life in the UK. As a rescuer of dogs from Cyprus myself it tugs on the heartstrings. I highly recommend this book to dog lovers and those who appreciate good writing.

A beautifully written account of what it means to rescue a dog from abroad. Told from Jackson the dog’s perspective through a series of letters to his friend Milo, this lovely book tracks his relationship with his new family, shares his often funny and sometimes sad reflections on his life both before and after his rescue, and by the end you will feel that he was part of your life too. A wonderful testament to the joys and challenges of rescuing and loving a dog.

I bought this book because we have had several rescue pointer (crosses) from Cyprus. “My Name is Jackson” captures exactly what makes these dogs so special, and why they need our help because of the particular circumstances which apply to hunting dogs in countries like Cyprus (cheap to buy, rarely treated as pets and simply discarded when no longer required). The book will make you laugh and cry, and also take away some really good points about training and socialising your rescue dog. If you’ve ever adopted a rescue dog, or are thinking of doing it, you should definitely buy this book.

This is a beautifully written book about a rescue dog with a previously sad life who arrives in the uk to rebuild his life. The letters he sends his friend, Milo, take you with him through the ups and downs of his journey, and make you feel a part of his story. If you didn’t know anything before about rescue dogs, then this is an eye opener. Enjoy.

A lovely, heartwarming book of letters from Jackson a Cyprus rescue dog to his friend Milo.
The book highlights the joy of a dog who no longer has to endure hunger, pain, discomfort, abuse and lack of affection.
The comical confusion he feels at normal life as a much loved family member is beautifully written.
A loving tribute to Jackson and all proceeds are being donated to the rescue to save more dogs.

Lovely story – a diary of Jackson, a beautiful rescue dog taken from the streets of Cyprus to a loving home in the U.K. Takes the form of letters written to his friend Milo about all his new experiences and things that he had never seen before and how he coped with them – assisted by the wonderful couple who adopted him. It is a book for all ages – adults will love it, dog lovers will find it emotional and children wil definitely enjoy it as well. Would make a lovely Christmas present for anybody at this time of year.
