This book is very popular with my older students, from Yr7 all the way up to Yr11! Having a page about the play/scene is really useful for students to see if they’ll like the play before choosing the piece is really helpful.

I bought this for my daughter who had to perform a short piece from a play that had been produced in the last 50 years. Unfortunately many of the pieces are bits of workshop material (I.e. not from plays that have ever had a theatre run) and other pieces (such as the Michael Morpugo bits) are chunks prose from the novels not the dramatic versions that were produced for the stage or film).

Needed course material

Nothing truly contemporary. Every speech is at least five years old. So many overdone speeches in this book. Nothing out of the box or interesting. May be an easy option for a GCSE monologue but nothing else in my opinion.
