    Mathematics book for year 1
This is a year 1 maths workbook. I purchased this book for my little boy who is in year 1. This book has three sections, each consisting of ten one page quizzes, most with ten questions, a progress and three listening tests. Listening tests involve going online but can be downloaded to your laptop or phone. You can also find answers to questions online. My little boy loves this book, I love working with it and it is very similar to what they do in class at school.

Bought for my daughter to develop her confidence in Maths. She has really enjoyed this book and has been able to read the questions herself. Nice pictures to go with each question. Highly recommend.

This is an excellent book and I believe that some schools also use the CGP range which is reassuring. There is a good range of exercises which are appropriate for the target age range and there are extra online listening tests to add further variety. Tests are all clearly laid out and simple for a guardian top guide their child through.

This arithmetic practice book is really helpful for my 6 years old boy. He quite enjoys doing it. It’s not really hard for him, except some of them need to be explained by an adult. Nice one. Highly recommend.

I ordered this for my girls who have actually just finished year 1 but wanted something to keep them busy during the summer break whilst keeping their school brains active 🙂

This book has loads of different types of challenges for them to complete with a progress chart at the front and answers are available online (handy so it doesn’t take up book space!) in case you need them.

This is perfectly suited to their age and ability and doing just a page or two each at a time doesn’t get tiresome and keeps them active in their thinking and learning so I am very happy with this book which certainly would help during the school year as well as being great continued practice during the holidays too. Thank you 🙂

This is a real school resource.

My son has just started year 1, he is really academic and enjoyed working through this book.

We both liked the fact that timed tests can be taken, using the QR code to access audio online that reads out questions – with space in the book for answers to be written, very good way to testing the knowledge.

    Highly recommended!

This book has three sections, each consisting of ten one-page tests, mostly with ten questions (range 8-12), a Progress Test and three Listening Tests.

The Listening Tests involve going on-line. With each question repeated once only, and then just five seconds being allowed to write down the answer (before the next question is asked), the Listening Test comes close to a classroom experience.

The answers to the questions for the whole book are also to be found exclusively on-line. From my point of view, that is a nuisance, but at least the relevant document is a pdf, so you can save it to your own computer and not have to keep going back on-line.

All the printed questions are intended to be completed ‘without writing anything down’ (except the answer, that is), but many of the questions are provided with a visual aid over which a finger can be run as the images are counted, one or more is subtracted, or whatever is required by the question.

The layout of the book is spacious and, with its many small illustrations, generally attractive. A typing error lurks in Test 10. More serious is a measure of ambiguity in some of the questions: E.g., ‘What is double 3?’ The expected answer is 6, but is 33 ‘wrong’? That is what we say when reading out a telephone number, or similar, with a consecutive pair of threes.

Or, given that the tractor illustrated looks like a toy tractor, how are we to know whether or not it is likely to be heavier than a corn cob? Ditto with a boot and a cow, except that both look like toys.

As ever, the more imaginative child, capable of thinking ‘outside the box’, is in danger of being quashed by being told she is WRONG! Teachers beware.

I feel strongly about that, but won’t end quite on that note. The book has much to commend it. It covers some possibly surprising areas such as telling the time on an analogue clockface and the order of the days and months (‘What day is four days before Monday?’), amounting in total to a brisk romp through a wide range of number concepts – plus some 3D shapes.
