Out of the two volumes of the Nier:Automata world guide available, Vol.2 is the more in depth regarding the actual game and it’s dynamics. It provides detailed breakdowns of each story chapter and boss fight, as well as lists and info on all items, upgrades, side quests and data to find within the game and across the map – to better help you complete the game.

The only thing this book is lacking is clearer information on where to find specific enemy spawn locations, so that you can complete your unit data to 100%. I often find myself looking on YouTube for the locations of certain machine variants that I haven’t yet encountered, as its not particularly clear in the book. It also would have benefitted with the addition of an index, to better find certain information you’re looking for, else you’ll be flicking through the pages over and over.

Otherwise, this book is a must for Nier:Automata fans. The book also features a number of short original stories that flesh-out the world of NieR a little more as well as multiple samples of concept artwork and interviews too.

    Infinitely better than Volume 1.
This version is much bigger and has all the bells and whistles that should have been included in Vol 1 including a full strategy guide etc.
It will have you wanting to jump back in!

This is more of a guide than the first edition plus it is way thicker. I have both for collection but if you’re looking for a guide on weapons, where to get them and so on this is brilliant. It even shows the concept art and has multiple stories as well as facts. I was shocked that it features Nier Gestalt/Replicant facts/stories as they’re my favourite of the Nier series. Overall very pleased and any Nier fan should consider owning these!!

The one corner was slightly damaged, I feel that is due to poor packaging, just placed in a thin cardboard package instead of having some protection. But the first edition I bought from the same seller came in perfect condition

The book has some nice images to show the character designs and how they were brought about. It also goes over information such as combat, weapon images/stories and map locations. These paired with the everything that is packed into this book makes it a Good purchase if you enjoyed NieR:Automata

Finally, the eagerly anticipated second volume of the NieR: Automata World Guide has arrived in all it’s 304 page, hard-bound glory. Once you pick it up you’ll wish you’d engaged in some weight-training first, because it really is a hefty out-sized book.

While the first volume was more of an illustrated “Survey Report” on the strange and desolated world of the video game and its opposing android and robot factions, this time we are taken deeper into the game’s lore, secrets and strategies, with lavishly illustrated character guides and level maps.

Square Enix and the game’s production team provide a huge amount of detail and background information here, translated from the original Japanese edition by Dark Horse. This and the previous volume take pride of place in my collection of NieR: Automata memorabilia.

Shame really… amazing cook, beautiful art, wonderful secrets… but the book arrived and had clearly been dropped right on it’s corner… largely, the pages are ok, but the front and back covers are shunted and ripped from the impact… really annoying because I would like a pristine one, but given the nature of it, I think it unlikely (and likely cost inefficient) to return and order another one…

For fans of the Nier Automata game, this book is simply sensational! The world and lore of the game is incredibly complex and the game provokes questions that are not all answered in-game. Extra information can be obtained from the associated novels, stage shows and readings in the orchestral concert, but this book reveals an enormous amount. It includes every bit of information from the game (much of which may not be found in a playthrough) and an incredibly informative Q and A with the creator Yoko Taro. It is also a very comprehensive game guide, and includes a huge amount of concept art, other associated artwork and some short stories giving the main characters view of the game events. Volume 1 was good (and there is a little bit of overlap here) but this volume is the best book I have seen on any game. The only minor criticism is that a lot of the pictures and text are small, but if they weren’t the book (which is large) would have been a ridiculous size. If you liked Nier Automata, this is a must buy.
