No Borders: Playing Rugby for Ireland (Behind the Jersey Series)
£6.50
Winner of Cross Sports Rugby Book of the Year 2016
From Jack Kyle’s immortals to Brian O’Driscoll’s golden generation, this is the story of Irish rugby told in the players’ words. Celebrated rugby writer Tom English embarks on a pilgrimage through the four provinces to reveal the fascinating and illuminating story of playing test rugby in the emerald green of Ireland – all the glory of victory, all the pain of defeat, and all the craic behind the scenes. But this is more than just a nostalgic look back through the years, it is a searing portrait of the effects of politics and religion on Irish sport, a story of great schisms and volatile divisions, but also as story of the profound unity, passionate friendships and the bonds of a brotherhood. With exclusive new interview material with a host of Ireland rugby greats, No Borders unveils the compelling truth of what it means to play for Ireland at Lansdowne Road, Croke Park and around the world. This is the ultimate history of Irish rugby – told, definitively, by the men who have been there and done it.

The best book about Irish rugby that has ever been written.
by Russell M. Hamilton
What a read. If you want to know about a rugby team then there is no better way to hear about it than from the actual players and coaches. They tell it how it was and how it is. Irish Rugby in the modern era is a refreshing account of the highs and lows through the years. Even through The Troubles, the desire to play for the green jersey trumped everything. Shoulder to Shoulder has always been and always will be the case when playing rugby for Ireland. Reading their accounts will show just how much they care on and off the pitch. You will not be disappointed at all.

Excellent, a must for fans of Irish rugby. Also great for all rugby enthusiasts, with lots of behind the scenes information.

This is a wonderful book. I’m intrigued by the way Tom English has pulled together the contemporary comments – of the individual players – and presented it in the format of a “conversation”, on each topic from each era.
Particularly interesting was the confused response by the IRFU to the transition from the amateur to the professional game. It explains a lot about the Irish Team performances, of that era.
