Northern Lights – The Graphic Novel Volume 1: Philip Pullman (His Dark Materials)

‘Without this child, we shall all die.’
Lyra Belacqua lives half-wild and carefree among the scholars of Jordan College, with her daemon familiar always by her side. But the arrival of her fearsome uncle, Lord Asriel, draws her to the heart of a terrible struggle – a struggle born of Gobblers and stolen children, witch clans and armoured bears.
As she hurtles towards danger in the cold far North, Lyra never suspects the shocking truth: she alone is destined to win, or to lose, the biggest battle imaginable.
The first book in a stunning three-volume graphic novel adaptation of Northern Lights.

World of Books is usually top notch and I’ve bought quite a few second hand books from them previously. Until now, I’ve always found the description of the condition of the books to be accurate. However, this copy of Northern Lights arrived with a significant rip on the back cover, so I wouldn’t class it as ‘good condition’. I’m always happy to give the benefit of the doubt that this is a one off, and I couldn’t be bothered to return it ????. Hopefully my next purchase will be closer to it’s described condition. The book itself is quite small, but perfect for popping in a kid’s bag for journeys. Overall, it seems like a good introduction to Pullman’s books. Hoping it will inspire my eldest to read the full original novel in future too.

Good service & good product

The font is tiny for children (like point 6 or something absurd) and general quality of the print is poor in relation to the cost. Disappointing.

Disappointed. The drawings are reproduced to such a small size that the speech bubbles are very difficult to read. I gave up about half way through. Also the quality of the drawings is not high.

I found the story gripping and recommend for a good read

Good quality of book nice and shiny pages but I didn’t expect comics. Probably my mistake that I didn’t understand that graphic novel means comics. I thought it will be whole book with nice graphic pictures. Out of my expectations.
I would recommend to post examples of inside pictures!

Very good adaptation of an already brilliant story. Love the art work and how it sticks true to the original telling of the tale. Not much is missed and it is an enjoyable read. Can’t wait for the 2nd and 3rd instalments.
